CROSSOVER #4: Avalanche Can't Close Out the Series in Game 5. We're Headed Back to Tampa

CROSSOVER #4: Avalanche Can't Close Out the Series in Game 5. We're Headed Back to Tampa

Everything was right where the Avalanche wanted it to be heading into Game 5. Avs up 3-1 in the series, back on home ice, the Stanley Cup in the building. But the Tampa Bay Lightning came to play and put everything they had into Game 5 to take a 3-2 win on a late 3rd period goal. Now the series heads back to Tampa for Game 6 on Sunday where the Avalanche will have their second chance to put an end to the series.
Both teams had good and bad moments. There were times it seemed like the Avalanche were taking control of the game, but Tampa would turn the tide with their stifling defense and start some extended offensive possessions of their own. You could play this game again right now and get a different result. These two teams are that evenly matched.
Some early penalties hurt the Avalanche chances at getting any real momentum in the first, but like games prior, that momentum continued to build and build as the game went on. They just couldn't get a go ahead goal when they needed one.
Another crossover episode with Adam Denker of Locked on Lightning!

CROSSOVER #3: Adam Denker from Locked on Lightning is Back to Talk Game 4. We Look Ahead to Game 5

Game 4 was easily a classic so we had to bring Adam back to get his take on how the Lightning are feeling after the OT loss to the Colorado Avalanche. Are Lightning fans as upset over the too many men on the ice as coach Jon Cooper is? How much are the Lightning relying on past experiences to keep the series alive?
We also take a look ahead to tonight's all important Game 5. Can the Avalanche end this on home ice and raise the Cup in front of their home fans?
Predictions are made! Fun is had by all!

Nazem Kadri With the OT Winner to Give the Avs a 3-1 Series Lead. Avs Can End it Friday in Denver.

Nazem Kadri With the OT Winner to Give the Avs a 3-1 Series Lead. Avs Can End it Friday in Denver.

Nazem Kadri was never going to miss the Stanley Cup Finals in their entirety. He wasn't even going to come back for a one off and just be there for the end. He wanted to get back on the ice ASAP and make a mark on this series. Boy, did he.
A classic of a game that saw both the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning going back and forth, headed into overtime for the second time this series. And just like the first time the Avalanche went home the winner. This time it was Kadri, playing in his first game since getting injured against Edmonton, putting home the game winner that not many people even noticed went in. But it did, and the Avs now have a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.
This game was also about Avs goalie Darcy Kuemper. A game to forget in Game 3, many were questioning if he should go back out for Game 4. Jared Bednar was confident he could return to his regular season form, and he answered the call. Kuemper might have let an easy one in by Victor Hedman, but he was great all game long.
Now the Avalanche head back home and have the opportunity to win their first Stanley Cup in 21 years and do it in front of the home crowd. Ball Arena will be a mad house.

Cale Makar Wins the Norris Trophy. Joe Sakic FINALLY Nominated for Best GM. Grades from Game 3.

Cale Makar Wins the Norris Trophy. Joe Sakic FINALLY Nominated for Best GM. Grades from Game 3.

The final vote was oh so close, but Cale Makar beat our Nashville Predators Roman Josi as the leagues best defenseman to take home the Norris Trophy. It is the first ever Norris won by a member of the Colorado Avalanche or Quebec Nordiques.
Makar was also named to the first team NHL All-Star Team.
Joe Sakic has been ridiculously absent from a nomination for the Jim Gregory Award for the leagues best GM. That came to an end this year as Sakic was finally among one of the three finalists, which the winner will be announced in July.
We also get to grades for the Avs after their 6-2 defeat in Game 3. Were there any A's to hand out? How about F's? Tune in to find out!

Mistake Filled Avs Drop First Game in Final, 6-2. Is a Goalie Change on the Horizon?

Mistake Filled Avs Drop First Game in Final, 6-2. Is a Goalie Change on the Horizon?

It started off not so bad, but then it just went downhill fast and the Avalanche could not recover. The Tampa Bay Lightning took advantage of an out of sync Colorado Avalanche squad and do what good teams do, made them pay for it.
But the Avs scored two goals before the Lightning scored one. The only problem was one of the Avs goals was recanted after a challenge and a Val Nichushkin goal was reversed for the Avs being offside.
Bad turnovers, struggling to get the puck out of the defensive zone to turn into offensive rushes were much more difficult to come by last night than they have been at any point.
And when mistakes are being made by your skaters, you need your goalie to bail you out sometimes. Darcy Kuemper struggled to do so. Pulled after his 5th goal allowed, the big question on the day off will be who starts in net?
We also might have some help on the way in the form of Andre Burakovsky returning from an injury, as well all Nazem Kadri. Stay tuned.

Avalanche Annihilate Lightning, 7-0. Take a 2-0 Series Lead in the Stanley Cup Final

Avalanche Annihilate Lightning, 7-0. Take a 2-0 Series Lead in the Stanley Cup Final

Wow. Well that was fun! At least for Avalanche fans. The Colorado Avalanche went out and played like a team possessed against the two time defending champs in the Tampa Bay Lightning. So much went wrong for Tampa while absolutely everything went right for the Avs. If there was any question about if the Avs could beat a top tier goalie, those questions have all been collected, stuffed into an envelope and locked away in a case sunk to the bottom of the ocean. All seven goals were against the great Vasilevskiy. He was never pulled for a backup, or for an extra attackers. No, he let in all seven Avalanche goals.
And they came in all forms. Even strength, two power play goals and even a short handed variety by Cale Makar.
The Avalanche gave Tampa Bay nothing. Darcy Kuemper had possibly the easiest shutout of his career as he turned aside 16 measly shots. But make no mistake, the Avalanche are not done in their quest for the Cup. Makar gave a simplistic "no" when asked if they will celebrate this victory. That happens after two more wins.
Chris and Kyle break it all down and even get two new songs on the Sound Check playlist!

Patrick M. Hall ,

Awesome to have more Avs content, but...

I’m giving this a 4 star review because it’s great to have another podcast dedicated to the Avs. However, the knowledge and analysis is lacking and leads to at least a couple of moments every show that make me cringe or shake my head with disappointment. Lots of inaccurate stats and analysis that simply doesn’t jive with what is actually happening on the ice. It’s clear that many of the guests either aren’t actually watching the games or simply don’t have a full understanding of the game. This is all easily fixable stuff, hence the 4 star rating, but it makes it difficult to listen to at times. Will happily change this review as quality improves. Check out the DNVR Avalanche podcast if you’re looking for the best Avs pod out there!

A for effort

Kind of sounds like a pod that a couple teenagers put together. Except they’re adults. Not the best avs coverage

JCW@1 ,

Mediocre!

Don’t think Chris prepares for his pods as much as he used to, or as much as other hosts within the network, and by adding Kyle, who adds zero, whatever content is offered is certainly diluted.
Not close to what it used to be!
