"Looking Inside" is partly based on a spiritual exercise known as 'hitbodedut' in which one has personal private conversations with God in order to see their true self as God sees them. It involves looking inside ourselves, asking probing questions to unveil the truth - of why we act, speak, and think the way we do, and being bold in taking the necessary steps to improve ourselves, and our relationships with both God and man. My hope is that this podcast will help you find the courage to look at your reflection in the mirror, connect the dots and impact your slice of the world. Cheers!

    Purpose is Not So Complicated

    Purpose is Not So Complicated

In this episode, I'm continuing on the topic of what is our true purpose.  I concluded the last episode by saying that our true purpose is to be righteous.  Being righteous can appear to be boring if we are doing it for ourselves - what fun in it just following rules.  It goes beyond that however because righteousness is fundamental in the overall success of our lives.  What we should do with our lives is easy, we do what we like.  But doing what we like without doing it right might take us far from the joy and fulfillment we expect in the end.

What is our true purpose in life?

What is our true purpose in life?

in this episode I explore the question of purpose, one of the existential questions I've contemplated including others such as "who am I?", "why am I here?", "what's the meaning of life?" among others.
My first encounter with this particular question came after visiting a church where this was an ongoing theme.  I was hoping to find an answer to what I want to do with my life.  Instead I came to the conclusion that "purpose", existentially is about being a righteous person following the commandments of God, not a job description.   Connecting with our purpose helps us with everything we do and when we fall short, we can go back to God asking for help to get back on track.
Hope you enjoy the podcast and find it helpful to you in some way.  Please like, share, and provide feedback as this helps to improve and grow.
    Cheers!

    My conversation with mom

    My conversation with mom

In this episode I review some of the content from the last episode and reflect on a conversation I had with my mom on the topic of hitbodedut. She was happy to know that her practice had a name. She also related some of her learnings over the years. Thanks for listening and please send us your feedback. Cheers!

    Your mind is not wasted

    Your mind is not wasted

In the 70's there was a saying "a mind is a terrible thing to waste" that was quite popular at the time as a way of promoting education and access to college education.  It worked and was quite successful.  The mind is a spiritual component of the human body which allows our soul to engage with the world.  Our mind performs many tasks each day so in essence it is not what is wasted.  Rather is the improper use of the mind that causes waste.  I relate this waste to the manufacturing process, providing examples of what waste possibly looks like in our lives.  I also talk briefly about the process of hitbodedut - read more about it here  https://breslov.org/hitbodedut-jewish-meditation-how-to/.

    What is hitbodedut?

    What is hitbodedut?

In this episode I talk a little more about what hitbodedut is and what it might not be. I try to answer the question of focus and emphasize that truth is the end goal, i.e. truth about ourselves, and truth which is God. I provide with an example of how the process works and possible results.  This podcast is still work in progress so I hope you enjoy and find something beneficial that will help to improve the relationship with yourself and others.  Be blessed.
