What is Wholeness Anyways?
I had a bone density test two weeks ago at the radiology lab, and ran into a dear friend who was in for a breast biopsy.
It felt like divine timing to be there together, reminiscing about how we both got through breast cancer a few years ago. Here we were back in a radiology lab where scary memories can rear their ugly head, which made us very happy to be together.
My test results were fine, and her biopsy turned out “all clear” too. Happy texts went back and forth, so grateful for wellness and wholeness this time.
“Wholeness” is an intriguing word isn’t it? But what is “wholeness” anyway? It certainly goes beyond the physical realm. Can we ever really achieve it? How will we know if we do?
Dr. Barbara Lowe, renowned psychologist and my dear friend, has made it her life work to help men and women achieve wholeness in their hearts, minds, and souls, which impacts physical wholeness as well.
She and I sat down recently to record a podcast on the subject, which I’m linking here. -
Fertility Journey
https://www.lynettelewis.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Lynette-Lewis-Fertility-Podcast-v1.0_mixdown.mp3
It was about this time in December when a friend called with the question,
“Lynette, do you still want twins?”
“Why are you asking?” was my first hesitant response. At 52, I felt way past this dream.
Turns out a “suddenly” was about to unfold.
I share what happened next, and the years of tears beforehand, in my newly recorded podcast (link it) about our fertility journey. I hope you’ll listen and send to anyone you know who is waiting for a breakthru.
Why do so many things take so long?? Things we felt certain would happen so fast...
The promotion
Finding “the one”
A pay raise
Getting pregnant
Anything else we want NOW!
While a breakthru may happen suddenly, the ramp up usually takes years.
Meanwhile, keep dreaming. Don’t ever stop believing, but maybe put your belief on a back burner and concentrate on what’s in your hand.
Make your waiting active — more like a waiter at a restaurant than waiting (staring) at a stoplight. -
Giving Your Way Out of Grief
The journey with our son Jordan, who died 5 years ago after a valiant battle with cancer, taught me about a different type of giving worth pondering on this #GivingTuesday.
While many were sending flowers for the funeral, someone suggested we ask people to give to what Jordan cared about more than flowers — “unreached, unengaged” people groups in some of the darkest nations in the world.
Since then, what started as a random idea has became far bigger than our family could have ever imagined. We call it Jordan Lewis Missions (JLM). Ron and I share the JLM story via a new podcast in the link below.
Small, large, and every-size-in-between gifts have resulted in...
- 4 churches started in the large tribe Jordan was in right before his diagnosis
- 3,517 underground churches formed in nations that heavily persecute Christians
- 10 church buildings constructed in India for the unreached
- 95 house churches now serving Syrian refugees
- 102 water pumps have brought clean water in Pakistan
- And so much more...
Considering we have no staff, this is beyond explanation! On this #GivingTuesday it’s a reminder that wonderful things can come out of the darkest loss and despair.
Whatever losses or heartaches you’re experiencing, I hope you’ll keep giving because nothing does more good for the heart and soul. -
