S4E77 REVISED: Making Quick Holiday Gifts; Electronic Cutting Machines

THIS EPISODE IS THE REAL EPISODE 77.  I APOLOGIZE ABOUT THE EP75 UPLOADED TO THIS ONE BY MISTAKE.

It is holiday crunch time.  It can be so fun and fulfilling to make and gift holiday presents for the people you love.  It can also be stressful and take longer than anticipated to complete a handmade gift.  Gifts do not need to be masterpieces, they are special because you made them.  I have lots of quick gift ideas that you can make very quickly, and have fun making them.
I also chat a little about electronic cutting machines….the Cricket Maker 3 and Silhouette Cameo 4, specifically.
Check out my podcast blog link below for links to gift ideas with video tutorials and ideas for Thanksgiving tablescape designs.

S4 E74 Jennifer Swope, MFA Boston: Fabric of a Nation: American Quilt Stories Exhibit

S4 E74 Jennifer Swope, MFA Boston: Fabric of a Nation: American Quilt Stories Exhibit

Today my guest is Jennifer Swope, a David and Roberta Logie Associate Curator, Textiles and Fashion Arts Department at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.  We talk about a new exhibition opening October 10th at the MFA, Boston.  The exhibit is called Fabric of a Nation: American Quilt Stories. There are 50 quilts in the exhibit spanning the past 300 years, including current quilts by artists like Bisa Butler.
Jennifer shares fascinating stories behind some of the quilts in the exhibit along with history of the fabrics and textiles used from the era the quilt were made.
There is an accompanying book written for the exhibit by Jennifer Swope, Jennifer Parmal and Lauren Whitley. The book title is the same as the exhibit title Fabric of a Nation: American Quilt Stories. This book is beautiful with a Bisa Butler quilt on the cover, and photographs of the quilts that are in the exhibit with their stories.

S4 E73: Hardrock Woodworks; Tiny Piecing and Norwegian Knitting

S4 E73: Hardrock Woodworks; Tiny Piecing and Norwegian Knitting

Hardrock Woodworks is a family run Etsy shop that sells handmade wood and 3D printed products.  Wayne is a fine woodworker craftsman, and he makes beautiful quilting clappers in maple wood, walnut and a type of maple called Ambrosia, which has a striped wood grain. He started making clappers and other quilting notions and tools as a result of his wife, Jane, who is a quilter, had a need for her sewing and quilting use.  A good quality clapper is in high demand for not only quilters, but clothing and bag making sewists as well.
I talk with Wayne, Jane and their daughter Katy.  Katy handles most of the tech related responsibilities of the business like taking product photos and uploading to Etsy and  social media and marketing.   They are giving a special 10% off promo code, STEPH10,  to my listeners to use in the Hardrock Woodworks Etsy shop.

S4 E72: Season 4 Premiere; Melanio Gomez, Making It Finalist

This is the Season 4 Premiere episode, and is hitting the ground running!  I have a shiny new logo for the podcast, as you will notice with the updated podcast art icon.

My guest is Melanio Gomez, a finalist Maker on the NBC TV show, Making It .  The Season 3 finale aired last week, August 26th, and 4 finalists competed with their final make of the Shed Hack.

Melanio shares his creative background that ultimately prepared him to be a maker on Making It.  We also chat about his experience on the show, working alongside other talented makers, showing completed projects to the judges and how the hosts, Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman kept everyone laughing.

Mary in New Mexico ,

Super!

Loved the episode on upholstery- thanks for sharing your expertise with us!

Fuguy22 ,

Too much rambling.

Love everything crafting and creating… but there is too much rambling. For example, S4E77: the episode starts at 23:11.
Maybe save the ramble for the end of the episode so the lisenter has the option to end the cast if not interested?
