[Meditation Inside] Turn Your Toxic Can-Do Attitude into Healthy Inspired Action with Sensei Victoria Whitfield

[Meditation Inside] Turn Your Toxic Can-Do Attitude into Healthy Inspired Action with Sensei Victoria Whitfield

Have you ever worked yourself to the point where you felt like you had really overdone things? Maybe even to the apex of landing yourself in hot water or even the hospital? If you are curious about whether your tendency to overwork or give too much of yourself is affecting you negatively, this episode is for you! My guest, Sensei Victoria Whitfield, shares a goosebump-inducing story about her own experience working herself into a dire situation, and then also shares how this event shaped her life and career. It was a major transition and we get to hear and, more importantly, learn from her journey. It's a fascinating story that involves her deep understanding of race, history, society, energy, and herself. I hope you enjoy this conversation and the powerful meditation inside.
As the world's first Business Reiki Master (TM) and hostess of the 5-star rated Journeypreneur Podcast on iTunes, Sensei Victoria Whitfield helps empathic entrepreneurs and leaders stay grounded and clear as they navigate the emotional rollercoaster of business development, by using the power of strategic meditation. Sensei Whitfield is a published author, a successful six-figure energy healer, and has toured the world showing heart-centered and growth-minded leaders how to get connected to their Natural Intuition and truly be #Visionary, so they can work less and increase their impact.
    Timestamps:
    • [4:09] Victoria shares “For me, to be visionary has been a lifelong journey, something that brings me out of shell. So for me personally, I've been on a long journey, managing my own energy, right and being what's called an empath, which is energy sensitive and picking up on things that have been left unsaid.”
    • [6:43] Victoria speaks of her upbringing by her black Christian Minister father and white  herbalist, nature queen mother… “the two of them really raised me on concepts like anything the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve like Napoleon Hill…”
    • [7:07] Victoria shares a story about the day she realized she had a toxic “can do attitude.”
    • [34:08] “And for those of us who are called to contribute, right, and who are in servant leadership roles, the ability to pause powerfully is essential to being resilient and having the confidence that we're headed in the right direction.”

How to Improve Your Narrative Intelligence and Increase Your Influence with Christina Blacken

How to Improve Your Narrative Intelligence and Increase Your Influence with Christina Blacken

Conversations about diversity, equity and inclusion seem to be a more frequent and familiar part of both our business and general culture. But how are actual changes and improvements in individual and group behavior going to be made?
My special guest, Christina Blacken has made a career for herself of looking at this very important question and chose a tool to do her work that is called Narrative Intelligence. In the episode, Christina teaches us all about Narrative Intelligence, her own childhood and childhood surroundings which sharpened her knowledge for story, and how stories influence people's thoughts and behavior. You will gain insight on how Christina expertly trains other people to be more aware of the stories that have influenced them, the cultures and policies they operate in, and to be more conscious about how they use their own personal influence.
Christina Blacken is a public speaker, performer, and founder of The New Quo. The New Quo is a leadership development and equity consultancy, helping leaders create equitable practices, habits, and goals through their narrative intelligence. She helps leaders identify the psychological impact of historical, cultural, and personal narratives on beliefs, bias, and behaviors to improve their bias recognition, as well as providing them with leadership tools to create more inclusive and equitable communication, goal setting, decision making, and relationship building skills.
    Timestamps:
    • [6:50] “So many of the things I've created in my life have always started from a pain point or a block or a barrier…”
    • [8:32] Christina shares how and why she discovered that story was a big part of how people were ingesting different cultures and identities that they maybe never interacted with before.
    • [11:12] Christina shares an example of “wholesale buying” of stories that influence and impact… “When there's discussions around beauty and professionalism, that straight hair is the norm. And if you don't have straight hair, you're not professional, you're not as attractive.
    • [16:03] Christina explains narrative intelligence as “the ability to recognize the patterns, and the narrative tropes that are internalized within you when it comes to societal or cultural stories, and how those then affect your behavior, your thinking, your biases, and shifting them appropriately if they're in the way of your full potential because there are stories we can ingest…”

    • [4:02] “Nothing is really that critical… Most of us are not dealing with life or death situations and issues on a day to day basis.”
    • [5:24] ”When we get all caught up in being everything for everybody, and we try to make everything just so imperfect, we tend to lose sight of the fact that our brains typically have the answers that we're looking for.”

The Secret Behind Impressive Leadership with Kerri Altom

Are you striving for success, but not getting the results you've been hoping for? My special guest, Kerri Altom, has developed a great strategy and technique for getting to the root of what might be getting in your way. In this episode, you're going to hear how Kerri's work with leaders of all different varieties helped her realize that too often leaders skip the critical step of getting clear on their values, priorities and purpose. Our conversation covers the questions we need to ask ourselves to get really clear about what is important to us and what defines our sense of integrity. By the end of the episode, you will understand why integrity is something that can really anchor your work and lead you straight to the results that you want.
Kerri Altom is an award winning writer, educator and entrepreneur.  As an integrity instigator, Kerri shows you how to define your values and align your life.  With her signature framework, The RISE Way, she is transforming struggling entrepreneurs into impact-making profit-taking leaders of a brighter world. Kerri is also a business coach, leadership consultant and the founder and CEO of RISE Media Group
    Timestamps:
    • [4:47] “After decades of doing that kind of work and working with a range of different kinds of leaders, I came to see these common patterns and these common struggles…”
    • [8:07] “Somebody who has identified who they are, what they believe in what their core values are. And they can convey that in a way that people can relate to. It builds trust, and it builds a sense of authority.”
    • [12:48] Kerri speaks of doing values exercises and visioning to go deeper into explaining who you are and what you believe in.
    • [19:52] Kerri gives us a great gardening analogy about perfectionism and the fear based stories we tell ourselves, then shares how to really get to the root of the problem… not just plucking at the surface level.
