#43 | Character Roots Through Production Design with Amy Williams ('Master of None')

Amy Williams is an Emmy-winning production designer with years of experience, having worked on projects like Master of None, The Wilds, Little America, A Crime to Remember, and We Need To Do Something. In this interview, Amy goes in-depth as to how her design process works and what production design means for a movie. She also tells all about working with Aziz Ansari, Alan Yang, Lena Waithe, and Naomi Ackie and how they together created the deeply rich and authentic world of Master of None - from New York to Italy and artwork to books (and five hundred teddy bears.)

Moxie & Yes, God, Yes - Are They Feminist? | Chick Flix Film Club

Welcome to the first edition of the Chick Flix Film Club! A programme presented by She Sources and Making It: Women in Film, airing the first Monday of every month.

This month we are talking about Moxie (2021, dir. Amy Poehler, av. Netflix) and Yes, God, Yes (2019, dir. Karen Maine, av. Netflix) - both dramedy-coming of age movies with girls in the lead. One is about being introduced to feminism and building a movement, the other about discovering and exploring ones own repressed sexuality and sensuality as a woman in a religious environment. Every month, we want to take a deep dive into so-called "feminist films" and discuss whether or not they hit the mark. So are these two movies feminist? Let's find out! (Spoilers ahead)

Next month's movies: Jennifer's Body (2009, dir. Karyn Kusama) and Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey (2020, dir. Cathy Yan).

This film club is hosted by Emma Stern, Lauren Piskothy, Malin Evita, and Lauren San Miguel. Follow them on Instagram at @SheSources_ and  @MakingItWomenInFilm. Websites: shesources.co & womeninfilm.co.uk.

#42 | The Main Character with Writer-Actress Mariah Goolsby

Mariah Goolsby is a California based actress, writer, and activist. In this episode, she sat down with Evita to talk about the power of storytelling through acting, being vulnerable with your art, and telling your own stories. They spoke about her upcoming short film MESSY (support them here) and about subverting audience expectations by telling the story of the stereotypical side character.
