Mark of the Maker is a panel discussion with renowned custom knife makers Tom Krein, Sean Kendrick and Michael Burch, and hosted by Mark Stheiner. The format is much like a group of friends sitting around in The Pit at Blade Show, talking knives - a look at life from the perspective of the maker as well as the collector. Covering broader topics such as tactical knife history, trends, industry commentary and influences of social media, as well as conversations with other knifemakers, collectors and notable figures in and around the custom knife world. The Story of Knife Steel
Dr. Larrin Thomas joins us for a well-overdue visit to talk about his book The Story of Knife Steel: Innovators Behind Modern Damascus and Super Steels. It's a fantastic book and one you should add to your collection, with an incredibly deep and well-researched pile of information. Larrin walks us through some great stories about various steels and the people behind them. Season 7 Kickoff
We kick off our 7th (!!) season with a look back at shows, trends, and some things we came across that we really enjoyed. There's also some talk about 2024 and what some of our hopes and aspirations look like for the coming year. Be sure to share your own goals with us, we'd love to hear them. Holiday Money Picks
Do you sometimes get cash from folks for the holidays? We do, so we wrap up Season 6 with a picks episode with some things we might pick if we had some "gift yourself" money to spare. Four price points and some gear we like. Find us at our Patreon and follow us on Instagram @markofthemaker or join our discussion group on Facebook for more conversation.
We sit down with top tier knifemaker Shane Sibert and talk knives and knifemaking. Shane's journey and his knifemaking process is a little different than some others, but without question he's one of the modern greats and the knives that come out of his relatively basic shop are truly outstanding. Do you like Military knives? We sure do, so we put together this picks episode across a few different categories. Fighting knives, bayonets and more. We were left with a few questions, so if you know the answers, please reach out or join our FB group to discuss. **Apologies in advance on this one for an audio issue that we were only able to partially resolve. Dr. Jim Lucie
Those of you familiar with the Scagel story (and our podcast on the topic) will also be familiar with the book Scagel Handmade, written by Dr. James Lucie. Dr. Lucie was not only the worlds foremost collector and expert on Scagel knives, but a truly interesting person and knifemaker in his own right. His daughter Stephanie Lucie joins us to help tell her father's story and we walk together through her book "Dr. Jim Lucie: A Bladesmith's Life & Legacy." We hope you enjoy the conversation as much as we did!
Dr. Rachel Parikh
If I may quote the great Sean Kendrick, listening to episodes with Dr. Rachel Parikh will make you “…less ignorant”. You guys are the best!
My New Favorite Podcast
Couldn’t really get into podcasts for the longest time, finally found one that I can’t stop listening to. Great for information as a new maker in my early 20’s and also highly entertaining. Not great for my wallet, ordered a Randall and a Hinderer in O1 since I’ve started listening LOL
If your into knives, swords, axes, hatchets, spears, or any edged weapon or tool, and you're not listening to Mark of the Maker, what are you doing?!
Fantastic group of fella’s with a wealth of knowledge, strong opinions, and a completely different styles. Super entertaining. Literally the only podcast I listen to.
