You Will Be Known By Your Clients' Results

There are no two ways around it: you’re known by your clients’ results, and no matter how selfish your motivation is, the only way to get your clients good results is to focus on helping them first and foremost.
Today, I talk about the need for a focus on business delivery over business growth. I talk about what systems you can systematically implement in your coaching business to ensure that your clients get the amazing results that they want, and I ask what your next step will be.
“Just because 100 people have bought your program doesn’t mean that you have helped 100 people.”

    Coach Marketing vs Coach Prospecting

    Coach Marketing vs Coach Prospecting

A lot of us spend too much time marketing and not enough time understanding our market. In this episode, I talk about the difference between marketing and prospecting.
Today, I define marketing and prospecting. I note the importance of getting to know your audience instead of simply telling a general crowd about your product. I note that knowing your audience will help you fine-tune your message, and I posit that marketing doesn’t get you clients; it just lets potential clients know you exist. Finally, I note the power of simply selling to the leads you already have.
“When you know exactly what the prize looks like, then you can fine-tune your message. And you actually need to do less marketing and more examination of who’s out there and what they need to hear.”

The One Thing To Do In Your Coaching Business This Year

The One Thing To Do In Your Coaching Business This Year

With every new year comes a new list of goals for your coaching business. But this year, I have a challenge for you: in the spirit of the importance of repetition, use this year to focus on selling just one thing.
Today, I talk about the importance of focus. I discuss the power of repetition, and I note that, if you put the effort into moving forward toward a single goal that you currently put into moving sideways toward distractions, you could reach new heights.
“The vast majority of coaches sell too much stuff.”

When The Sh*t Hits The Fan

When The Sh*t Hits The Fan

Happy New Year! In this episode, I talk about the sh*t that hit the fan this past year when my ex-wife and I parted ways. During this time, I found it difficult to show up for work; on paper, I might as well have been unemployed. Yet the company’s numbers reached a record high. Why? Because I’ve designed my business to be able to function without me.
Today, I talk about the importance of doing just this. I note that there will always be times of crisis, and when there are, it’s important to be able to rest assured that it doesn’t mean the end of your business. I explain the reasons my business was able to run with a headless chicken at the helm, and I refer you to two earlier episodes on disaster-proofing your business.
“If the headteacher doesn’t show up to school, school keeps running. How can you put something similar in place in your coaching business?”

What Do You Do Between Coaching Sessions?

What Do You Do Between Coaching Sessions?

In recent years, I’ve done less and accomplished more in terms of impact. How? I don’t do the heavy lifting for my clients. A client recently asked me for a session summary after our meeting. In this episode, I talk about why I told her no.
Today, I talk about the dangers of scope creep: the tendency to try to do everything, with the result that what you’re supposed to be focusing on suffers. I note that avoiding scope creep is beneficial to your clients too, because refusing to do the heavy lifting for your clients forces them to get more out of your time together. I note that scope creep comes in all shapes and sizes, and I emphasize the importance of stopping when the clock stops.
“You’ve got to be careful of scope creep, and committing to doing stuff between sessions is very dangerous.”

Should You Go Into Business With Your Clients?Ma

Should You Go Into Business With Your Clients?Ma

It’s fairly common for a coach’s clients to want to partner up. As the coach being approached, you need to know how to respond to these propositions and recognize when to accept and when to decline them.
Today, I talk about how to respond to a client’s offer to go into business together. I offer some questions to consider before answering. I share a story illustrating the importance of making sure your new role lies within your expertise, and I note the need to consider how much control you would give up in accepting any new role. I note that every business deal is more complicated in reality than it first seems, and I advise you to move slowly when approached by anyone with a business offer.
“Business plans on paper are very, very easy to conjure up--and in reality, you may find yourself juggling an entire situation that you are not in control of and trading out all of the luxuries of self-employment as a coach that you have built for yourself so far.”

Yummy Bite Size Tips

I only came to know of this podcast very recently. Matthew was a podcast guest on Mike Kim’s Brand You Podcast (here’s a shameless plug for you, Mike). First, I just loved his accent and then I wanted to hear more from him since I am a coach in the grief and loss space. I just downloaded the 30 August episode because who doesn’t want to hear more about “how to structure an easy sales conversation”? 🙋‍♀️ I also love that each episode is less than 20-minutes. Big bonus in my life! Thank you Matthew Kimberley for the great and easy digestible content! Keep up the great work! To my fellow Podcast listeners, don’t forget to subscribe and download! If you are a coach, this podcast is for you!

Fun, delightful, helpful

Today I found myself flying down one of the busiest interstates in Washington state with tears streaming down my cheeks, screaming with laughter, pounding on the consul of my Suburban.

The fertility/idearreah metaphor from the “Beat Distraction” episode got a little messy and weird, and you were HILARIOUS about it and awesome. And I will forever respect you for sticking with it all the way to the end AND publishing the thing.

I will never forget to focus on one idea/product/marketing hypthosis at a time!!!

Also, I hope you bought Ms. K flowers after that posted!
:) Sara

PS - love these short episodes for little nuggets I can hold onto and put into action easily
