Marriage Puzzle

Juli and Thomas Hobby

Marriage is a lot like putting together a brand new puzzle. You see the picture on the box and think "I can do that!" or "That would be fun to put together." But once you open the box you realize how much work is involved in turning over all the pieces, finding the edges and what fits in the middle. In marriage, you are constantly turning over new pieces to find out where they go. We'll be talking about our marriage in an attempt to pass along any wisdom we can to others. We hope you'll join us on the journey where together we'll work on marriage, one puzzle piece at a time.

Ep. 106 | Part 2 - Pornography, Solo Intimacy, and Marriage

In episode 106, the second installment of our Q&A series on pornography and solo intimacy, we dig into some of the toughest questions couples wrestle with but rarely say out loud. Does adult content quietly reshape what we expect from sex with our spouse — and can it chip away at attraction over time? Is pornography a bridge that draws a couple closer, or a wall that keeps them apart? And when it comes to toys or adult content in the marriage bed, are we adding something that enhances intimacy, or inviting an invisible third party into the relationship? We explore the tension between a healthy and unhealthy marriage bed, grounded by Jesus' words in Matthew 5:28 — "But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Ep. 105 | Pornography, Solo Intimacy, and Marriage

Is watching pornography cheating, a harmless outlet, or a destructive addiction? In this episode, we tackle one of the most polarizing topics in marriage: solo intimacy vs. shared intimacy, and what happens when one spouse initiates and the other rejects. We ask (and debate) the hard questions: Is it healthy to choose solo satisfaction over your spouse when you're in the mood?Does one spouse's rejection of intimacy justify the other turning to solo intimacy or pornography? Why do men and women often experience desire so differently — and what can couples do about the gap?Is there a double standard between how we view male consumption of pornography vs. female consumption of romance novels/media? We also talk through practical alternatives couples can turn to instead — like how you can still spice up your intimacy through a partnership we have with a safe no nudity website (see info below) — and look at what Scripture says about intimacy and self-control in marriage. 1 Corinthians 7:2-5 ESV “But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.” For a safe, no nudity, environment to check out ways to spice up the intimacy in your marriage, check out our partners Romantic Blessings. Ep. 104 | Attachment Styles in Marriage: Connection vs. Space

When your spouse gets home after work, what do they need most: connection or space? One of the most common marriage conflicts doesn't happen during a major disagreement—it happens during the first few minutes after one spouse walks through the door. In episode 104 of the Marriage Puzzle podcast, we're discussing attachment styles, emotional needs, and why some people recharge through connection while others recharge through solitude. We'll explore how these differences can create misunderstandings, feelings of rejection, and unnecessary conflict when couples assume the worst about each other's needs. You'll learn how to interpret your spouse's behavior through grace instead of fear, create healthy "coming home" rhythms, and build a plan that helps both spouses feel loved and understood. Key Takeaways: • Why some people need connection while others need space after a long day • How attachment styles impact marriage communication • Common assumptions that create unnecessary conflict • How to stop interpreting your spouse's needs as rejection • Practical ways to create a healthy after-work routine • Simple conversations that help both spouses feel valued This Week's Challenge:Talk with your spouse about what helps each of you transition from work mode to home mode. Create a simple plan that honors both of your needs and commit to following through. "Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others."— Philippians 2:4 If this episode helped you, share it with another couple and be sure to follow Marriage Puzzle wherever you listen to podcasts.
