The interviews alone are worth it!
You might not always agree with Matt, but he has an opionion and he's willing to defend it - but he's at his best when talking to developers designers and artists of the past and getting stories about how they came to where they are and why some decisions were made. Always interesting and honestly, I don't always know who his interveiwees are when it starts but I get to know them by the end.
If you just want one episode or two to start with - check out the interviews with the Fat Man, George Sanger. Probably the best of the lot but all are great!
Great Show!
Matt's podcast is great for the retro rpg gamer. I have been gaming since the 80s and grew up on the same games he talks about. It's great reliving the moments of the classics. When he talks about these games it brings you back. The interviews are top notch too. You learn so much from these old developers about games long gone. If you like the podcast, I recommend you get his book Dungeons and Desktops... it was because of the book that I found the podcast. The book is great and goes over the different "Ages" of crpgs.
My only gripe is that he switched to a Video format that my ipod 3G doesn't play, so I am stuck with listening only to the rare show that is audio only. It used to be all audio btw (here's a request matt...do more audio or make the videos in ipod compatible format...)
Great Retro Gaming Memories
I'm a big retro gaming buff, wheter it be on computers or consoles and this podcast is perfect for me! Matt takes the classics and gives a brief intro and then shows gameplay, I love it. I wish he could fit in a little bit more gameplay video but I imagine he's trying to keep it short and sweet. Keep up the good work!
