Ani Janzen, human dignity before diet science, + Stacey Abrams

Ani Janzen, human dignity before diet science, + Stacey Abrams

Matter of Fat brings you a body positive podcast with Midwest sensibilities. Co-hosts Cat Polivoda and Saraya Boghani highlight community voices with a focus on body size, body positivity, + fat liberation.

The Fat Dish confronts the rapidly passing summer, commemorates the co-hosts’ love of “WAP”, celebrates continued learning, teases out the tension in our democracy, and goes deep into Big Brother. Who knew it could all happen in one segment?

Ani Janzen is the guest for this episode! MoF has shared Ani’s work through the Radical Health Alliance, the Twin Cities Fat Community, and so much more over the years. It’s the perfect time to hear about her fat liberation experience and how research and facts are secondary to human dignity.

Listen, the Dirt and Discourse isn’t the same old same old. Our co-hosts aren’t here to trot out what everyone else is talking about? In fact, they decided to share their hot takes on the Democratic VP candidates, specifically Stacey Abrams. MoF is pro Stacey Abrams and the gals wanted to discuss how fatphobia and misogynoir contribute to the public discourse around her.

Thanks for listening and reading! Make sure to rate and review to help MoF engage with the algorithm and go to our website to RSVP for the next Podluck, check out resources that Ani has shared and we’ve compiled, and/or sign up for the newsletter. It’s the first link below ;)

Alexander Jacques, School System Secrets, + Dressing for Your Damn Self

Alexander Jacques, School System Secrets, + Dressing for Your Damn Self

Matter of Fat is serving you a body positive podcast with Midwest sensibilities. Co-hosts Cat Polivoda and Saraya Boghani highlight community voices with a focus on body size, body positivity, + fat liberation.

That Fat Dish conversation picks up where the last episode’s interview left off. Cat and Saraya talk about modern romance novels, being mindful about genres, how grand the first Podluck went, zoom backgrounds, and their roles with the Twin Cities’ chapter for the New Leaders Council. There are NLC chapters almost everywhere in the US and applications are due early September so check it out!

Our co-hosts talk with Alexander Jacques who was an NLC-TC Curriculum Co-Chair with Cat this year. Check out his interview to hear more about his queerness and fatness, his thoughts on education in Minnesota, and what anti-racist work can look like. Also, he shares some joys he’s finding during the pandemic.

The gals trot out a good ole standby for the Dirt and Discourse: wear what ya want pandemic edition! No, they’re not saying that masks are optional. Rather, how do we take care of ourselves when our schedules and social lives have adjusted. What does that look like for you?

Kachina Yeager, Dakotah Language, + "Unprecedented Times"

Kachina Yeager, Dakotah Language, + "Unprecedented Times"

Matter of Fat is back with a full-length episode serving you a body positive podcast with Midwest sensibilities. Co-hosts Cat Polivoda and Saraya Boghani highlight community voices with a focus on body size, body positivity, + fat liberation.

It’s been around... uh…. 8 months since the last full episode came out so the Fat Dish is robust. Cat and Saraya started out the episode with an updated version of the segment with a more specific check in about their lives. Any community events will be shared at the end of each episode going forward. In the Fat Dish, the co-hosts acknowledged the pandemic, the murder of George Floyd, the importance of police abolition in social change, personal changes over the past 8 months, and the first Podluck taking place the day after release.

You’ll be delighted to hear an interview with Kachina Yeager. Kachina shares her story as a Matter of Fat which includes her internship through Cake Plus-Size Resale. She also provides some beautiful insight into the Dakotah language, independent publishing through her fellowship with Milkweed Editions, and some audio/book recommendations that both Cat and Saraya have added to their rotation.

In the Dirt and Discourse, our intrepid podcasters wade into the excitement and discomfort around relevant pop and cultural happenings. This time around, there isn’t much excitement but it sure is relevant. Cat and Saraya discuss how unhelpful and downright harmful it is to lament gaining weight in the midst of a worldwide panic. “Riots not diets” makes more sense now than ever before.

Thanks for listening and reading! Make sure to rate and review to help MoF engage with the algorithm and go to our website to win big at BINGO. While we haven’t actually generated MoF BINGO cards (yet?), we have compiled a great list of organizations to support like Black Visions Collective, Reclaim the Block, the Minnesota Freedom Fund, MPD150, and Women for Political Change. Also, Kachina provided links to her recommendations and we’ll share out her instagram so you can see for yourself the great content she’s created. Alright, now’s the time to mosey on over to the website. It’s the first link below ;)

Great pod with amazing guests!

Truly such a fun, informative, and uplifting podcast. The hosts share from their own journeys and the guests go in depth about so many topics. Highly recommend!

Wonderfully Approachable and Entertaining

This is a great pod for everyone! Cat and Saraya have a wonderful, clever, and always thought-provoking way of discussing current topics in fat liberation and body neutrality. Their guests are equally amazing and help stretch my world views and understanding of living in a bigger body and it is so empowering to listen to them. They also explore intersectionallity of social justice issues which is important to me. I'm going through all the episodes again right now, as a Matter of Fat (pseudo-pun for all the faithful followers!), and I am challenged again in a new way listening to the convos once more!

Love the show!

Great hosts and great contact! Super easy listen and always informative. Keep up the great work, Cat and Saraya!
