Well, I had two weeks of vacation time coming, so I decided to start a podcast about "Weird Al" Yankovic. That was in 2014. Now join me, Dakota Rimmer and my cohost, Gerrit as we dive off the deep end to reach as far into Weird Al's oeuvre for comedy, tropes, deeper meanings, and life lessons. Also, we interviewed Weird Al once, so there's that.

A Fun Geek-Out

I started listening to this podcast a few weeks ago and plowed through the first several where they reviewed every ALbum (but Poodle Hat is missing) as well as a handful of episodes from the last few months.

The early ones are a bit less focused on Weird Al than ones in the last year or so, and the quality was rather amateur (lots of p popping) but it's gotten better. The early ones also take a few tries to download.

When listening to the newer ones, it's nice to geek out with the hosts and learn some stuff. They don't know everything Weird Al related but raise some good thoughts examining things like, is Al self conscious about the early stuff? Or would "Fat" be an okay song if released today? It's certainly more focused and on point.

The podcast is generally clean, language-wise, as Weird Al music is, so it's good to have on in the car when indoctrinating kids into the cult of Al.

The show seems to be recorded a while in advance so it's not always as fresh as it could be, and though most of the p popping is gone, some still is there which is annoying but other than that it's a great four star podcast.

Genius in Nashville

I just finished catching up on all the MTWATY episodes and it has been a really fun experience. The hosts are hilarious and fun! I realize that this was the first one, but in full disclosure I must reveal that this is the 4th Podcast about Weird Al on which I’ve finally caught up. Starting from the beginning, I thought I wouldn’t really like hearing about speculations on old tours/squeezebox/etc, but the perspective and discussions have been interesting and fun. I also thought I knew pretty much everything about most of the songs, happenings, and lore, but in many instances I learned something neat from these fine fellas.

I support their noble quest to talk to everyone in the world about Weird Al and look forward to hearing all those talks.

Great stuff!

Waka-waka doodoo yeah!

I’d rather spend eternity eating shards of broken glass, than to spend one more minute not listening to this wonderful podcast.
