    Season 5 Episode 5: Storytelling

    Season 5 Episode 5: Storytelling

The peoples of the Mesa Verde region and their descendants have found meaning and guidance in the stars for thousands of years. Storytelling is a big part of the descendants’ lives still today. The stars, moon, and sun are key elements of those stories, and their movement through the sky determine when certain stories are told throughout the year.

In this episode, we’ll hear about the ways humans have tracked the monthly lunar cycle, as well as the lunar standstill, and the significance that eclipses have for descendants of the Mesa Verde region today.

Season 5 Episode 2: Sun Watching

Some of the most well-known celestial alignments within ancestral sites correspond with the annual movement of the sun along the horizon throughout the year - especially on the Solstices and Equinoxes.

In this season of Mesa Verde Voices, we'll hear about the ways that ancient people observed and tracked the movement of the sun, the moon, and the stars, as well as how these traditions live on in their descendants still today.

My family’s favorite podcast!

We discovered Mesa Verde Voices while doing research ahead of a National Parks roadtrip, and listening to a couple of seasons prior to our first visit to Mesa Verde made our visit so much more meaningful! It’s a great choice for the whole family to listen to, and I have also used two episodes to spark conversation with history students at my university. I so appreciate how Kayla and the team work to foreground and listen to the stories and voices of the people of the pueblos. We have learned so much!

Mesa Verde Voices speaks well

This is a fine series that regards the profound deep history of the Native peoples from the Four Corners area. I appreciate the diversity of voices represented in the content: Native folks, archaeologists, and other informed students of the past. Keep up the good work!
