    Effect on Emotions
Using mindfulness to deal with my emotions has been very important for me, especially in the last year.

I went through a very difficult breakup with my fiancee last year and so it's been a very emotional last year for me.

Mindfulness has [helped] and it has been incredibly difficult to stay sane and to manage my emotions.

    Thoughts on Breathing
I specifically got into meditation this year.

I have actually 400 hours of yoga teacher training certification as well.

I always knew that meditation is important, but I was always like, I'm not a meditator.

I like different visualizations and breathing techniques in order to bring myself back into the present moment.

    Bullying Story
I think mindfulness in the workplace can help you to understand what's happening [re: bullying]

It can help make some space between the attacker and, and help you maybe not take it as personal.

I think mindfulness can help you to assess more rationally, to determine what is happening and then take action based on that insight, instead of from that place of fear, anger, and aggression.

    Living With Yourself

    Living With Yourself

Living with yourself is the topic I've decided to cover today. We often have a dialogue with ourselves that looks like a back and forth conversation. I often talk about the inner bully, and how some of that chatter that's going on is not very positive or encouraging. Sometimes we say mean and nasty things to ourselves that we would never say to another person. So we really have to be careful of how we converse with ourselves in our own minds.

    Awareness
As soon as you become aware of how you're living with yourself and what your inner chatter is saying to you, then you can do something about it. You have to identify it first, and clearly listen to the words you are saying. Living With Yourself is a TV show on Netflix featuring actor, Paul Rudd. At first, I didn't think of this show in the context of mindfulness and the inner bully, but the more I thought about it I realized it was related. The main character in this show has two sides. One side is upbeat and positive and things in his life are going well. He succeeds at his job and he's seen as a winner, even by himself.  He also has an opposite side that is not doing so well. He's struggling and having challenges on a regular basis.

    One of Those Days?
Are you like me? Are there some days when things just seem to fall into place, and you feel terrific about life? On those ‘sunny days', you have an amazingly positive outlook and you just feel terrific. Then there are other days where the opposite is true. The TV show, Living With Yourself, lays this out for you. We all are living with ourselves and it's up to us to figure out how to live in such a way that that we feel good about it and enjoy our journey.

    More Great Days
Mindfulness can help us have more of the great days. We learn to be aware of our thoughts and to live in the moment. Of course, we think about the future, we make plans but it's also important to live in the moment and be happy now. We can chose to be happy with our lives at the present moment. This TV show reminded me of specific ways we can live life with a winning mindset.

    Dress For The Day
The pandemic can leave me feeling like I'm in a rut sometimes. Maybe some days I might not get dressed up as much as usual or maybe not shave and do what I can to look my best. My suggestion is to do what you can to feel better, and if that means not wearing sweatpants as much and fixing up your hair or dressing up in some nicer clothes, then make the effort to do that. Your family will likely notice and you will feel more like a winner.  Maybe you are working but in spite of that, keep habits in place that make you feel good.

Get Up At A Set Time
I suggest you get up at a planned time, and stick to routines that really work for you. Your routines can help you to feel like things are going well and and you're getting tasks accomplished. If you get up in the morning and take action, working on your list of jobs that correspond to your goals, then you'll feel like you are moving forward and I you will feel better as a result.

    Exercise
Make sure that exercise is built into your schedule, one way or another. We are fed by our endorphins; those endorphins that are created when we move and when we get exercise, whether that's going for a brisk walk, a swim, a run, or another activity. Whatever it takes for you to move your body will definitely result in helping you feel better and be more healthy. Once you become more active, take note of how good you feel.

    Feed Your Brain
Set aside some time to read or to listen to podcasts or to meditate. I meditate every day and this practice has improved my life as it has for many of my guests and listeners too. Make sure that you are delivering for you, as well as for other people in your life. Sometimes we spend a lot of time serving others, working at our job, and taking care of our families. Also make an effort to set aside time for you.

    Effect on Emotions
Emotions are triggered by instability, sometimes the ability to watch your emotions, and your feelings without judgment can lead to a greater sense of calm, a greater sense of understanding.

Being mindful of what's going on around me and to be able to watch my emotions, watch my feelings, without judgment for a period of time, the ability to suspend judgment is again, another superpower.

    Wow, What A Ride

    Wow, What A Ride

Wow, What A Ride is the name of this episode. Let me tell you what inspired me to share this topic with you today. My wife sent me a quote, “life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of riding safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud ‘o smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, wow, what a ride.” This quote is by Hunter S. Thompson. I thought what an interesting concept to think about. After all, mindfulness is often thinking about healthy eating and just being happy and healthy and living that kind of life. Do you sometimes think it's risky to be too careful? Maybe being too careful will cause us to miss out on life. This quote says hey, live your life, enjoy your life. I decided to look up Hunter S. Thompson and find out more about him.

    Who Is Hunter?
Hunter Stockton Thompson founded a movement in journalism called the gonzo journalism movement. He rose to prominence with the publication of a book called ‘Hells Angels'. This is a book that he spent almost two years living and riding with the Hells Angels motorcycle gang in order to write this firsthand account of their lives and what it was like being a Hells Angel member. Thompson was born in 1937, in Kentucky and he died in 2005. My research said, in one of the articles; Hunter had a briefcase of drugs and a supreme command of language. And as he defined his legacy at Rolling Stone, he changed journalism in the process. So yes, Hunter became a journalist at Rolling Stone magazine, and really made an impact there as a journalist.

What do you think? What are your thoughts? Do you think it's really important to do what he suggests in this in this quote? “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud o' smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, wow, what a ride!”

    Take Chances
There are five ideas that came to me as a result of the above quote. The first one is, take chances. I think it's really important not to be too careful all the time; not be too worried about taking risks. Don't be so concerned that something negative might happen. I really think it's important in life to take chances, I mean, that's my philosophy. I have known people with the opposite philosophy. People who are extremely careful and never want to take chances. That's not my philosophy. I really like the idea of taking chances; the idea of doing things that maybe a lot of other people would not choose to do. I think taking chances makes life fun; makes it interesting. It gives life, an aspect of excitement. And it's just the way I want to live life.

    Be Creative
The second thing, I believe, is use your creativity. And I think that a lot of people in adulthood, get kind of cornered in their career, where they really are not using very much creativity. I've interviewed a lot of people that got stuck in a job of some kind and they kind of woke up one day and thought, What am I doing? I'm not, grabbing life by the horns. I'm not really digging in and enjoying my life the way I should be. And then they turned around and discovered that through creativity, they could discover something about themselves. They could discover something about the world that just changed their perspective. And I can think of a number of guests on my show who fit this description. Tommy Breedlove is one of them. I absolutely loved having him on the show. It was episode 554. Tommy is one of those people that has that a huge creative side. And he introduced me to some other people that I've had on the show that were really creative as well. So whether it's getting into music, like my episode that I just just had with Jack Stafford if you'd missed that episode (725)m I'd encourage you to go back and

    Fulfilment For Your Life

    Fulfilment For Your Life

The word, fulfillment is a word I'd like to discuss. What does it mean to you? I've had a word of the year, many times, and I found it to be a helpful practice. I can use my word of the year to be inspired every day, in one way or another. Let's talk about having a word of the year. Do you think having a word of the year is a valuable exercise? Before we talk about the word of the year, I want to share with you a quote for the year that I thought was meaningful. I put it up on TikTok to share with the world.

    A Quote
Here's the quote, “be the one who is so busy loving your life, that you have no time for hate, regret, or fear.” I think there's a lot to that quote that's valuable; be the one who is so busy loving your life. And that's related to loving yourself, of course, because if you have a dislike for yourself, if you have a hate-on for yourself, you're probably going to have a hate-on for your life. And so I think it's one in the same. So again, be so busy loving yourself, or be so busy loving your life. I think those two thoughts are very similar.

The next part of the quote is that you will have no time for hate, regret, or fear. Those are all very different things but they are all rooted from fear. Fear is one of those emotions that other emotions come from, including hate, anger, and regret. It's important to embrace fear and just say to yourself, hey, I'm just going to let that fear happen. I'm going to examine it, I'm going to notice it, I'm going to pay attention to it. And I think for me, many times in my life, I tried to not pay attention to it. I tried to push it down, I tried to get busy, so I wouldn't be thinking about it or think about something else.

    What Is Fear?
Fear is something that, if you welcome it, if you are open to it, if you allow it to be, then it won't seem like such a big deal. But that's why I think this quote is really great. “Be the one who is so busy loving your life, that you have no time for hate, regret or fear”. And that quote is by Karen Salmonsohn. And I didn't know this author before I found the quote but I looked her up and noticed she's the author of this book, which I think I'd really enjoy reading, called “Happy Habits: 50 Science Backed Rituals To Adopt (or stop) To Boost Health and Happiness. Keep practicing mindfulness and you will learn more and more about the definition of fear

    Your Word?
How can I release a habit that is not serving me any longer? The answer to this question will reveal a very important way to get ahead. This is something a lot of people think of, at the beginning of the year of the year. I haven't read Karen Salmonsohn's book, but I think probably the book is excellent. But back to Word of the Year. So my word of the year is fulfillment, what is yours?  What does fulfillment really mean to you? Well, I think to me, as a mindfulness guy, I think you can choose to be fulfilled, I think fulfillment is a choice. A lot of people do not feel fulfilled in their lives. And that causes them a lot of pain, a lot of angst, a lot of anxiety. And they go day after day feeling as though they have missed the boat. Feeling thoughts like, I'm not achieving enough, I'm not enough. And that is what I have experienced with my clients. A lot of times their anxiety boils down to is this belief that they are not enough, they don't make enough money, or they haven't made enough impact on the world, or maybe haven't authored enough books.

    You Are ______.
You know what? You are enough. I think that's what mindfulness teaches us. It teaches us to be happy at this very moment. And I think that's why fulfillment is such a great word because you can choose to be fulfilled. Now, it may not be easy to just suddenly decide, I'm fulfilled. The fact is, if you decide that you are going to be satisfied in your life at this very moment, it will give you peace, it will give you a sense of b
