Mindsight Discovery with Beth Hartman McGilley, Ph.D, FAED, CEDS Recovery Bites

    • Mental Health

In this episode, I am joined by Beth Hartman McGilley, Ph.D., FAED, CEDS-S, recovered clinician and psychologist in private practice, specializing in the treatment of eating disorders, athletes, trauma, and grief. Her practice is informed by feminist, HAES, and social justice perspectives. A Fellow of the AED, and a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist/Supervisor, she has practiced psychotherapy for over 35 years, in addition to writing, lecturing, and supervising. She is the co-editor of the book: Treatment of Eating Disorders: Bridging the Research/Practice Gap.

SOME OF THE TOPICS DISCUSSED:
• Coping with the “messiness” of recovery.
• Living in ambiguity.
• Addressing fear surrounding treatment for athletes with eating disorders.
• Finding ways to physically move that moves you.
• The clinical need to “show up” for clients by honoring the uniqueness of each person's recovery.
• Tolerating competing emotions and feeling states.
• How recovery offers an entirely different way of relating to tragic events.
• Mindsight...getting out of the rabbit hole!
