Mini-Episode 4 - The Theology of Scary Movies (w/ Dr. Myles Werntz) As You Go

    • Christianity

w/ Bo Bowen, Dr. Myles Werntz, and Producer Ross

Just in time for Halloween, it's a special Mini-Episode! In the spirit of this spooky (though often misunderstood) holiday, Bo has a brief chat with previous guest, Dr. Myles Werntz, about how Christians can glean spiritual and theological insights from horror films.

While Bo and Myles both acknowledge there is a lot of worthless junk out there when it comes to horror movies, they make a case for why Christians should not shy away from stories that dramatically force considerations of real spiritual issues, such as the nature and persistence of evil, the dangers of prejudice and social outcasting, and the transcendent power of personal sacrifice.

Dr. Werntz also shares some of his picks for worthwhile horror movies to check out this Halloween, and Ross and Bo add some of their own at the end of the episode.

So, whether or not you indulge the fun of Halloween, this mini-episode provokes deeper thought about how we consume stories and the questions we should ask when we do.

If you would like to share your own favorite horror movie picks, or argue with us about the ones we selected, you can do so all kinds of ways.
