Misfit Los Angeles Radio is a podcast focused on past, current and future Los Angeles through the lens of the working class Chicano and Latino community. Hosted by long time activist and organizer Javier Gonzalez, Misfit Los Angeles Radio is an unfiltered, entertaining, and funny view of forgotten historical events in Los Angeles and a critical view of current events. Each episode delivers original written, visual, and audio content along with our own curation of various related movies, videos, links, articles, books (You remember what books are?), and music. Music curation is done in conjunction with DJ Sloe Poke. Technical and content support is done by a whole bunch of people who don’t want to be mentioned here because they have regular jobs and don’t want the man to fire them. Misfit LA Radio is 100% independent and not affiliated with anything or anyone, or as Sloe Poke would say, “we are not wit nobody.”
Episode 11: Día del Trabajo Mix - Misfit LA Radio
Episode 10: Adrian, This Is Your Life - Misfit LA Radio
This episode is close and personal to all of us, but more so Adrian. El Smart Guy tells us the story of growing up in Esquinapa, Mexico in a Bordel, AKA a Ho House. But there is more, it was a Bisexual Bordel.… you gotta listen for the rest.
But in all seriousness, shortly after recording this podcast, one of the main characters in Adrian’s life discussed in this podcast, La Cuata, passed away. Rest in Peace, que ne paz descanse.
Episode 9: How Did We Do Responding To COVID? - Misfit LA Radio
No one knows the long term effects of COVID-19 on us or on society. But one thing is for sure, if we f**k up the long term like we did the short term, we are screwed. We don’t have Trump to blame anymore. Misfit LA Radio gives one last whining session to all those we voted for and failed us.
Listen in and check out some interesting articles we discuss.
Long-Haulers Are Redefining COVID-19, Atlantic Monthly. We still feel effects and we are not alone – like the galaxy!L.A.’s Coronavirus testing has been a failure on all levels, “He’s trying to fix it”, LA Times. We should have listened to this guy.“The Plague of the Year”, The New Yorker
Episode 8: We Had COVID! - Misfit LA Radio
Don’t blame the humans! We knew they would panic. It’s the government that has failed during COVID.
Politicians have fed the equally guilty press a blame shifting narrative that the deadly waves of infections from the coronavirus is primarily the result of personal behavior. In fact, the worldwide spread of coronavirus is the direct result of the poor job of public servants worldwide.
Episode 7: A Musical Response to COVID-19 - Misfit LA Radio
This is a special mix dedicated to those who are suffering from or recovered from the TrumpVirus AKA COVID-19. This was a great talk about how people have survived and a nice uplifting mix for those home with the bug to dance a bit.
Rest in peace to those who passed away.
Episode 6: No Justice, No Peace - Misfit LA Radio
Chicarrón, El Smart Guy, and DJ Sloe Poke are joined by Jorge Nuño From "The Big House" to discuss Racism in America.
I like how personal each story and it was interesting to hear how people dealt with Covid!
