The Lighthouse More Movies Please!

    • Film Reviews

On the podcast this week, we’re trying to figure out just what the hell happened in the unique Robert Eggers film, The Lighthouse.
We wax rhapsodic about the rocky relationship between Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson’s characters. It’s clear from the first moments of the film that the acting shown on screen is of the highest quality. Seriously, they should show this film in acting classes. But then we puzzle over whether anyone actually dies in the film. Or maybe they don’t and it’s all historical allegory? And who is really worthy of the lighthouse light? WHAT DOES THIS MOVIE MEAN?
It’s clear there’s a lot going on in this wonderful movie. We’re especially taken by the Oscar-nominated cinematography and the sound design that always seems to be threatening to overtake you as you watch. The look and feel of this film is sure to take you back in cinematic time.
Also, Sean makes an astounding admission of teen vampire movie-related guilt. We end up going down a long rabbit hole about the Twilight movies and books. Don’t say we didn’t warn you here.

Fair warning, friends: this is a gross scene from the movie. If you’re not a fan of blood, vampire childbirth, or more melodrama than any human can handle, then maybe that YouTube link above isn’t for you.
