Welcome to More Than a Story, where each episode is an original short story… and a little more. At the end of each episode, I’ll talk briefly about an idea you can take away from it. Something to inspire you or make you think. Ideas to help us take a look at our own stories so we can make them truly wonderful.
My name is Derek Henig, and it’s my mission here--and in everything I do--to fill your day with something good.
So, without further ado, I hope you enjoy… More Than a Story!

(FANTASY) - All is well on Penelope’s island, Sel, until a mysterious monster suddenly attacks the village and causes Penelope to fall unconscious. What this monster is and what it’s after, she doesn’t know. Yet, when those answers are discovered, the truth is even harder to grasp, and this journey will become the fight of Penelope’s life.
(FANTASY) - Holokai has a golden coin that, when he casts it into the magical well, will grant him a single wish by their god, Ekewaka. In fact, all the children on the islands are born with these coins. It’s an amazing miracle, yet Holokai is stuck and unable to think of a wish. His friends and everyone his age have already cast their coins into the well and Holokai is afraid he’ll never think of a wish. However, an accident will force Holokai to come to terms with what he wants and move beyond the events from his past that are holding him back. With the help of the energetic and quirky, Ekewaka, Holokai will face his deepest fears and long-held pain.
The Invisible Friends
(ADVENTURE) - Sam has a unique connection to a group of invisible friends, and they’re annoying him. He’s a senior in High School and they are trying to convince him to skip school, leave home, and go on an adventure to save a young girl; someone they say has the potential to change the world. If he goes, it’ll most likely trigger his mother to bring him back to the doctors for evaluation like she did when he was eight. If he stays, a young girl will suffer, and the world might suffer as well…
(SCI-FI) - Barry’s normal morning routine is quickly steered off course by an impossible scene. Cars are blocking his path on the highway, but it isn’t the normal traffic. These cars are all empty—running, and placed in drive, but empty. Soon, Barry finds himself on a search for answers—fueled by the persistence of his closest friend, Rachel—and what they find is beyond what either expects…
(HORROR) - Mother Midnight comes to you in the night. She searches your mind for what you want. You'll certainly get it, what you desired, but the price you'll pay will leave you begging for her to stop, to leave you alone, to help you no more. There's nothing to be afraid of, though. It's just a kid's cautionary tale. A message to be careful of what you wish for, and to take responsibility for what goes wrong in your life. It's just a cautionary tale...

I’ve been an Audible subscriber for years, and I love listening to audiobooks when I work out, run, go food shopping, or cook dinner. It’s also an essential road trip companion! And Audible isn’t just audiobooks either. They have podcasts, exclusive Audible Originals, and more. You will be entertained, and you can learn new things along the way. I recommend The Practicing Mind in this episode, but go where your heart leads you. Other favorites of mine are The Compound Effect and The 4-Hour Work Week. Death On An Airplane
(MYSTERY) - SAMUEL PRICE, Special Agent of the FBI, awakes while on his flight from Munich to New York, and something's wrong. For one, the sleeping pills he took are causing him to see what's not there. Then, there's the fact that all the passengers around him are whispering about a murder on the plane. All he wants is to sleep, but he won't. Will he rise to the occasion, or will his addled mind let a killer walk free?
Love these stories
I do not know how Derek continues to come up with these stories (and music) just happy he does! So good.
Great message & story
First off, I'm pretty old school in that I'd prefer to read a story over listening to it, but I figured I would give this one a shot after a friend said that I needed to check out Derek's podcast immediately. You can definitely tell he's passionate about this story by his emotion and enthusiasm. This story really hit home for me with the message, and I felt like I could relate to the characters on their mission. Can't believe how fast the hour went by and already looking forward to the next story.
Just what I needed today hear!
Thank you!!! This was just what I needed to hear! The story, music, and worksheet, all helped me to finally take the steps I’ve been wanting to take for so long. Thank you for creating this amazing podcast! I can’t wait to hear the next one😊
