Welcome back to the Movement Professional podcast.

In this episode, I am joined by special guest Meghan Morley.

Meghan is a licensed professional counselor and owner of Cognitive Pursuits (https://www.cognitive-pursuits.com/about), a company created to help individuals make impactful behavioral changes, and gain a deeper understanding of their thoughts and emotions to allow for improvement in their overall well-being. Meghan’s major modes of intervention include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, and existential Psychotherapy.

Along with her work in the realm of mental health, Meghan is a high-level personal trainer and fellow StrongFirst Elite Instructor. I met Meghan during the StrongFirst Lifter certification, and I was thoroughly impressed by her strength and movement efficiency.

As I learned about Meghan’s expertise in the fields of psychology and behavioral change, I knew I needed to dive deeper into conversation with her. The integration of fitness, physical therapy, psychology, and behavioral change is, in my opinion, paramount to the efforts to help individuals gain more control over the chronic conditions that seem to be plaguing our society. Finding a psychology professional who is also proficient in the language of movement can often seem like finding a needle in a haystack. So please enjoy the first of hopefully many conversations with this (to double down on the cliches) “diamond in the rough”.

Some of the topics we discuss are as follows:

1. Strategies for behavioral consistency
2. The difference between goals and wishes
3. Cognitive behavioral therapy
4. The WOOP (Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan) format for goal setting
5. Relationships vs. judgments
