    Ep.21 Pride 2024: Gregg Araki/Todd Haynes (Mysterious Skin/May December)

    Ep.21 Pride 2024: Gregg Araki/Todd Haynes (Mysterious Skin/May December)

Welcome everyone to the first episode of Pride for 2024! While only one of these films is queer, both were made by queer directors, both are favorites of mine, and obviously, while this is a heavier episode than typical for the podcast, I do think it was important to cover both movies. Please enjoy this episode, and stay tuned for the rest of the Pride episodes of the podcast as we transition episodes to being weekly (if I can release them on time)! If you want to submit a movie recommendation...

Ep. 20 The 25th Maryland Film Festival (Secret Mall Apartment and More!)

At the beginning of May, I got the opportunity to attend the 25th Maryland Film Festival after the festival being gone last year and I got to see some really amazing films that previously played at Sundance, SXSW, and Fantastic Fest, and some of them have release scheduled planned, have distribution, and some need to find a home so you can all watch them! *Apologies for the audio issue that happened with the intro and outro, not sure what happened there until I was editing!*If you want to sub...

Ep. 18 The All-Americana Road Trip (The Muppets Movie/Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me)

Welcome everyone to easily my favorite episode of the podcast so far, as I talk about one of the most formative films of my younger years and a film that profoundly changed my life by helping me dive into the work of one of my favorite directors. It was impossible to cut any of the audio speaking about my love of The Muppets, Jim Henson, Twin Peaks, or David Lynch! Please enjoy this episode and again, no spoilers for Twin Peaks in this episode! Please watch the show after you hear this episod...

Ep. 17 The Life and Death of Lydia Tár (Monster Hunter/Tár)

Hello everyone, thank you for joining me for a more somber episode as we examine the life and death of Lydia Tár and one of her proudest contributions to the world of film, creating the score for the Monster Hunter movie, and talk about her mediocre, Oscar-bait, fear-mongering biopic, Tár. Please be kind as we share about her life.*I appreciate everyone's willingness to let me joke just a bit with some performance art, Happy April Fool's Day!*If you want to submit a movie recommendation, plea...

    Ep. 16 Listener's Pick #2 (The Witches of Eastwick/Safe)

We are back with the second Listener's Pick episode of the podcast! Thankfully, I had seen both of these films and was able to revisit them both in time for the podcast, and if you have ever wanted to hear me openly wonder if a film was extremely feminist or falling victim to the male gaze, question if Jack Nicholson could pull Cher, Susan Sarandon, and Michelle Pfieffer all at once with them all being fine with it, accidentally spend my entire time critiquing a film I actually really enjoy, ...

ListenerWes ,

No nuance, stolen takes, generally a smug podcast host.

James is smug and immensely ignorant. They give this air of believing their farts smell like roses. They misuse a lot of terms that have a heavy connotation in order to manipulate an emotional response from their audience, and then they weaponize their audience against other creators, all while extracting money from them.

James is a horrible person, one that brigades people online, and cries harassment anytime someone calls James out. (Harassment being one of the terms they overuse in many situations where it isn’t applicable in order to play the victim online and farm sympathy and money from their followers).

What a horrible person. And then there is they’re take on film which is juvenile and without any nuance.

You’re better off listening to an episode of Peppa Pig.
