    Ep. 2408 Sierra Donor Services

    Ep. 2408 Sierra Donor Services

Sierra Donor Services (SDS) serves nearly three million people across Northern California and Northern Nevada. They are a team of professionals dedicated to saving and improving lives by connecting organ and tissue donations to the patients who need them. Family, did you know that one organ donor can save as many as eight lives. One tissue donor can improve the lives of 75 or more people.

Dwayne Wilson is a devoted and energetic Donate Life Ambassador who had to leave his career as an NBA equipment manager when his chronic heart condition led to the need for a transplant. Luckily Wilson received a heart transplant in 2021 and has never felt better.

Michael Coleman is Sierra Donor Services’ (SDS) Director of External Affairs, has a passion for sharply increasing the number of registered organ and tissue donors and ultimately eliminating the organ transplant wait list.

Tune in to hear my conversation with Dwayne as he shares his inspirational story from living with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a disease in which the heart muscle becomes thickened, making it harder for the heart to pump blood, to transplantation. Michael joins the conversation to inform the Full Circle Family on all the good work Sierra Donor Services is doing.

Full Circle Spotlight: Giving 4 Loss

Full Circle Spotlight: Giving 4 Loss

Giving for Loss (G4L) began 3 years ago when Founder and Executive Chef Mike Harris and his family experienced a tragedy resulting in the loss of his brother. Through this life-changing experience, G4L was formed to ensure grieving families are provided at least 3 days of nutritious meals free of charge; immediately following the loss of their loved one. G4L has built a growing community of individuals who have experienced the same type of loss and understand the need for support, from a trauma informed center.

The Giving for Loss Culinary Diversion Program is a 4- week program that not only prepares youth for the real-world workforce but teaches professional kitchen basics such as kitchen hygiene, food handling, nutritional and healthy eating, knife skills, cooking with line ticket reading, dishwashing, customer service, community interaction and more. The meals that are made in this program are provided by the students who go throughout the community giving the meals away to seniors, the less fortunate and those experiencing homelessness.

Hear Chef Mike’s passionate story in his own words.

Your support and donations to G4L will help supply nutritious dinners, show love and support to families that have lost a loved one.
