From industrial warehouse to housing cooperative. The case of Warmbächli, an upcycled building in Bern.

In this fourth episode, exceptionally in English, we chose to cross the Sarine River to look at the reuse approaches of the Warmbächli cooperative in Bern. The building that houses the cooperative is a former goods warehouse, and in order to reduce construction waste and take advantage of grey energy, the architects chose to build housings in the existing.

Claudia Thiesen from the office Thiesen & Wolf tells us about this project through the challenges encountered by the reallocation, the projected lifestyles and the role of the architects and the inhabitants in a participatory approach.

Whether it comes from our consumer goods or from the world of construction, our waste today forms the archipelago of a new geological stratum: the sedimentary layer of the Anthropocene.

How long will we let this ultimate matter accumulate on the territory?
