Top of the class in #TrueCrime

Dr. Massnick gets it. This is an excellent pod, hosted by an academic who is passionate about her field. Most importantly, Doc does not talk down to her audience. She not only educates her audience, but she speaks honestly about serial killers. She treats her guests (interview subjects, cohosts, and audience) as her academic equal, discussing the importance of victims voices, while also teaching the criminal background of the subject. I haven’t heard anyone else putting together a pod like this, and certainly not this polished. High production value, makes it an easy listen.

Can I go back to grad school?

I thought I had amazing professors when I went to college/grad school, but Dr. Massnick makes me want to take out more student loans to go back to school! She had a passion for her students and is relatable when talking about the unthinkable. She is open, funny, and her way of “deep-diving” into a case doesn’t feel “studious” - it feels as if you’re having coffee (or wine) with a friend. And then you realize that you’ve learned about the people behind the ugliness of true crime. The families, the victims, the community - she personalizes the horror and teaches the listener with compassion and “out of the box” discussions. Love it and I’m jealous of those blessed to be in (or more likely, out of) her classroom! Bring on more!!

Decent but uneducated

This would be a five star podcast if both people were educated in psychology. The woman seems to know what she’s talking about and is entertaining to listen to. The man is constantly ‘rolling his eyes’ and doesn’t seem to know much about mental health. Why are you doing a podcast on this subject if you’re uneducated on it? You keep saying there are ‘no excuses ‘, well, there are, as unfortunate as it is. Obviously there is no one answer but people don’t just decide to murder for no reason. There are multiple factors that go into these actions and you dismiss them all, making it seem like he had this wonderful life because of his adopted parents. Besides the fact that the man seems very uneducated on the subject it is an okay podcast.
