On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. David was eventually tried, convicted, and sentenced to life without parole for the murder of Yvonne. But the entire investigation may have been botched, or even worse, covered up. Now, after 22 years journalist Maggie Freleng investigates Yvonne’s murder alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three) and his organization Proclaim Justice. Is David actually innocent? And if so, who did kill Yvonne Layne?

I listen to a lot of true crime podcasts and this one is at the top of the list. Maggie is an excellent host and investigative journalist with a pleasant voice (I listen to these as I fall asleep). Great job!
A gem of a podcast!
Let me preface this review by saying I typically do not have a lot of time to listen to podcasts. I, however, will make time for the right ones.
I got the chance to meet Maggie at this year’s Obsessed Fest (which will probably be the last OF, at least the last one I will attend given the current state of affairs with the Obsessed Network..but I digress..) Maggie was a very lovely person to meet. You could tell that she genuinely wanted to meet everyone, unlike others I saw who will remain nameless. I just got amazing vibes from her. And even though I had never listened to any of her podcasts before, I was drawn in to meet her. I dug her vibe.
As soon as we started traveling back home, I started listening to this podcast on the plane. And I was listening it to every chance I got. I finished it in record time, for me. I loved being able to see Maggie’s vulnerable side and hearing her breakdown and be so upset regarding the case, it resonated with me. For I am the same way. Things hit me deeply. This podcast really draws you in. Maggie is smart and witty and HUMAN. A great job was done with both investigating and interviewing all involved. I’m starting Unjust and Unsolved today.
