Jamell Demons, also known as the up-and-coming rapper YNW Melly, gained notoriety in the hip hop world for both his shocking lyrics and his criminal exploits. Although he has never denied his past convictions, Melly adamantly denies any involvement in the gruesome murders of two of his best friends in 2018.
‘Murder on My Mind: The YNW Melly Double Murder Trial’ features Law&Crime’s extensive coverage of the Florida death penalty case, explores the circumstances leading up to the murders of two young men, and the mistrials of the man accused of killing them. YNW Melly's first and second trials both ended in hung juries, and as of February 2024, his trial is paused and awaiting adjudication of the inclusion of digital evidence: a 20-minute documentary about his own life, which prosecutors say is evidence he was at the scene of the crime in question.

    Life Imitates Art

    Life Imitates Art

Jamell Demons, aka YNW Melly, faces charges for the double murder of his childhood friends, Christopher Thomas Jr. aka YNW Juvy and Anthony Williams aka Sakchaser, in a case that blurs the lines between his music and alleged criminal actions. Did Melly’s troubled upbringing, early exposure to firearms, and his own documentary foreshadow the tragic events? Or is Melly just a product of his environment?

Melly & Bortlen vs. The Evidence

The reliability of eyewitness accounts is challenged as investigators meticulously examine the purported scene of the crime for clues. Doubts about the actual occupants of the vehicle during the killings of Juvy and SakChaser are raised by surveillance footage and cell phone data. Autopsies and a forensic examination of the vehicle suggests a web of deception, indicating discrepancies in the narratives provided.

Hard to review something that is inherently subject to bias

I would recommend this show to people interested in the case, but keep an open mind and know that the producer of this show has the ability to control the narrative in whatever way they prefer to, to fit their idea of what occurred. It’s human nature and very few people are able to present something like this that is free of any bias and subjectivity.

Given that, I found it a good story of a true crime event. I call it a “story” intentionally, as that’s how I approached it. Read as much facts and determine for yourself. The show had me rushing in for the next episode.

Like just listen to the opening statement of the next “…psyche” show after Melly in the teaser, and you can see how much she controls the narrative with her choice of words and how she emphasizes things that paint the man in a pretty negative light. Anyway, listen for yourself and try to ignore the phrasing, tone, and editing of the producer.

Giving it 3 stars because I enjoyed it, but feel there is bias in there, in my opinion. Which direction that bias is in, I will keep to myself.

YNW MELLY PODCAST EP. 1

FYI NO. NOT MIAMI. As someone born & raised in Miami- NMB Senior High whoot! Go Chargers!! Melly did not relocate/move to/start his next chapter in Miami, though I’m sure it sounds nicer for your podcast. He moved to a completely different city and county… Broward County (north of MIA). Basically why the shooting took place in and the court case is being heard in: Broward County. This is a bit more than an oversight given the incentive to err here and dress your show up in a bit more flash, NameDropping Miami. Nonetheless, will potentially replace this 3/5 stars given here later with a better score, if appropriate. Appropriate includes approaching/covering this case reasonably given that despite “…innocent until proven guilty…,” there appears to be a mountain of evidence pointing to Melly as a murderer (of his childhood friends- no matter how many “rhymes” spinning the situation, it’s not cool, or fly, or whatever, it’s cold-hearted and disgusting) and a sloppy cover-up artist. Be careful not to end up having been glorifying a murderer. That all being said, I’ll be listening with an open mind…
