36 episodes

Welcome to Museums in Strange Places, a podcast for people who love museums, stories, culture, and exploring the world. In Season 1, the podcast focuses on museums in Iceland. Season 2 explores the museums of Maryland.

I’m your host, Hannah Hethmon, and in each episode I visit a different museum to discover its stories, discuss challenges and triumphs with fascinating museum professionals (and volunteers), and get to know each season’s country, state, or region through it museums.

I believe that museums are one of the best ways to discover a place, whether it’s your first time visiting or you’ve lived there your whole life. Join me on this adventure as I get to know the world….one museum as a time.

Wonderful podcast!

Compelling, quirky, and masterful. Hannah has a talent for coaxing amazing stories from her interviewees. VERY highly recommended!

Fascinating, unique podcast

I first became aware of Hannah’s podcast, Museums in Strange Places, when I came across Hannah’s extensive list of museum podcast. Museums in Strange places is a very delightful and unique podcast. What I love the most is how Hannah highlights various topics and issues on the museum world by interviewing the personnel of various institutions in Iceland. Listeners are also able to learn more about Iceland and the communities and people.
As an interviewer, Hannah is very sensitive and always has some thought provoking questions up her sleeve. Her interviews sound more like a conversation between two good friends as opposed to brief acquaintances, which, in my opinion, is exactly how an interview should be.

Takes You There!

What a gem of a podcast! The host really takes you with her on the visits and you feel as though you can look up and see the places and experience the locations. The cohosts/interviewees are really knowledgeable as well so it’s a great listen!
