Five years ago, I was a Gang Prosecutor in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. One winter night, I decided to try an experiment: Could I learn Spanish from watching a telenovela? Five years later, I left my job and Chicago, to move to Mexico City, to write the telenovela of my dreams. I don’t understand Spanish or The Metric System. Just like in a great telenovela,, anything can happen... Stay tuned!
“The Bold & The Beautiful Cry Too” A Mini- RadioNovela in 8 Episodes!
Last month I created a mini- Radio Novela called “The Bold & The Beautiful Cry Too.” After a Bold Chief of Police arrests a Beautiful, Mysterious Woman for a Murder she committed right in front of him, you will wonder who running this Interrogation... The B&B was originally part Small Fish Radio’s podcast, “The Approximately Five Minute Shelter In Place Show!” Thank you to the show!! They have their own podcast on Apple, where you can also find “My Mexican Mistakes!”
“Bernardo, Flaquito & Chip!”
No, they are not a new folk group! They are the three men/dogs in my dog Shyla’s life! She continues to be more popular here than I am, but I don’t care, because between the two of us, I’m the one that can buy Valium without a prescription.
“It’s Easier To Buy Valium Than Hand Sanitizer In Puerto Vallarta! (Which May Not Be A Bad Thing...)
The adventure continues as my dog Shyla and I decide to ride out the Coronavirus here in Vallarta!! And what’s the story with The Mystery Of The Missing Canadians??
“I Did Not Move To México To Learn To Speak English With A Canadian Accent!”
It’s a new town (Puerto Vallarta), with a new dog (“Shyla”), and a new challenge crossing the big street that I need to cross to get anywhere. And a month in Sayulita did not improve my Spanish, but I do sound more like Bob & Doug McKenzie from “The Great White North” than I used to...
“I Didn’t Move To Mexico To Make Chicken Soup Three Times A Week, And Yet, That’s What’s Happened...
If you know the movie “Baby Boom,” you’ll know what happens when I’m adopted by a street dog in Sayulita!!
“I Have Never Seen A Chicken Out In Public Before.”
Join me in Sayulita, on the Riviera Nayarit, where I am learning that I may not be a beach town person, and that I definitely need to learn more about animals.

Listen with caution while driving! :)
I love this podcast! As I drove to work one rainy Monday morning I listened to the episode where la gringa describes her “arrogance” in the grocery store.
I laughed so hard I almost caused several small accidents. I’m happy to say I learned a few things as well.
The way la gringa describes her adventures is hysterical, insightful and thoroughly enjoyable!
I’m also learning some Spanish as well!
I like so much listen Gringa Novelera personal telenovela
It is narrated in a very entertaining and fun way of telling.
I am Mexican and I like to know the perspective that a person from another country who has decided to come to live here can have.
La Gringa is my hero!
What a witty and entertaining podcast! I laugh every single episode. I just discovered it but I’m already 4 episodes in. Karen is so naturally funny and the way she describes the novelas is very accurate. They are kind of ridiculous but also very fun to watch. Keep up the great work Karen! You have a fan base
