086: Coping with Birth Trauma ft. Ayelet Schwell

086: Coping with Birth Trauma ft. Ayelet Schwell

Tune in as Kay and Ayelet discuss experiences with birth trauma, misconceptions associated with birth work, and how doulas are helping moms all over the world!

Ayelet Schwell is a doula, speaker, and educator for mothers and birth professionals.   Over her 16 years of working in perinatal care, she has used her experience, knowledge, and intuition to guide mothers as they create their own positive, powerful birth stories.

Ayelet believes in the right of every birth-giver to have autonomy, dignity, and respect in their perinatal care and works towards that goal in her doula work and in her work with mothers who have experienced birth trauma through the Birthing Our Stories workshops.

Her experience has taught her that there are four things that will make or break a positive birth experience: Power, Voice, Choice, and Support.

Following her own experience of birth trauma, she found that as soon as people heard she was a doula, they would start pouring out their birth stories - often very difficult, scary, or traumatic experiences.

She wanted to find a way to give those stories their space and to truly be an ally to the mothers who needed a safe place to share those experiences and reclaim their intrinsic power, and that’s how Birthing Our Stories came to be.

Ayelet is passionate about raising awareness about the reality of living with birth trauma and giving hope that there can be healing and there can be joy.

She has been a speaker at the Naturelle VBAC Summit, and the Jewish Mamas Movement Summit, and has been a guest on the Faith Breathed Hope Podcast, and the Successful Diligence podcast, as well as speaking at local venues and being a guest expert in pregnancy and birth-related online forums.

As a mom of 6, wife, and business owner, she gets by on baby snuggles, coffee, and sci-fi novels.

RAW AND REAL

Kayleon is such an incredible human being to listen to and interviews her guests with such intentionality and grace. It’s clear that she really, really cares about other people’s stories, not only from how she speaks about hard topics with such care and truth but also in the fact of her making a whole podcast to shed light on shadowed subjects. I am so thankful this podcast EXISTS.

Moved to Tears

My daughter and I were blessed to share our story on My Sentiments Exactly Podcast on January 22, 2021. The host Kayleon, was amazing leading up to, during, and after our interview. She took steps to make us comfortable enough to share the story behind our pain and how we overcame. But not only that she was compassionate enough to afford us a cooling off after action period to chat and make certain that my daughter and I were doing okay following our revelations. But that’s not all because the true magic came in what Kayleon gave us on February 8, 2021. What we received moved me to tears. Given those sentiments I would highly recommend that anyone that has a testimony that they’re willing to share reach out to Kayleon. I would also highly recommend that those that aren’t yet in a place to share, listen in so that they may be empowered.
