Navigating Intuitive Eating with Digestive Disorders & Chronic Illness The Gut Show

    • Nutrition

Digestive diseases and disorders are increasingly becoming commonplace in the world. Things like GERD, Celiac, Crohn’s and the ever so common IBS are issues where the gastrointestinal system is dealing with inflammation or bacterial overgrowth. While these conditions range from mild to severe, it can be really tough to face a diagnosis and learn how to eat and nourish their bodies moving forward.

In today’s episode I am talking to Elyse Resch, a RDN and a nutrition therapist in private practice in Beverly Hills with over thirty-seven years of experience. She helps her client navigate restrictive eating patterns and practice more mindful eating habits.

During our conversation Elyse shares her own experience with restrictive eating, infertility and retraining her mindset about food and nutrition. She talks about the intuitive eating framework, misconceptions about this practice, why nourishing your body means you’re nourishing your brain and the role diet culture plays in food preference.

In this episode, we cover:
Elyse shares why she decided to specialize in intuitive eating and digestive disorders [2:37] What is the intuitive eating framework and some of the misconceptions around this practice [11:59] Our brains can’t work if we aren’t nourishing ourselves and why serotonin matters [23:56] Does aversion to certain food come from diet culture or genuine harm to your body?
