A theory is defined as an idea used to account for a situation or to justify a course of action. It can sometimes answer the question “why?”, but can also be the basis of good conversation.

New Theory Radio is a weekly talk show hosted by local media personality Nav Nanwa, where we focus on the ‘why’ within the world of arts and pop culture.

Each week, he’s joined by a panel of guests to ‘theorize’ on the week’s biggest pop culture news/happenings within music, movies, television and media. He also profiles notable creatives pushing the scene forward within Peel and the World.

Topics in the past have included minority representation within the arts, classic albums, cancel culture, popular memes, mental health and more.

New Theory Radio airs on News Talk Sauga 960 AM (www.sauga960am.ca) Sundays from 11am-12 pm and Mondays from 8-9pm.

The podcast version is available Tuesdays via iTunes (apple.co/2s2523n) and Spotify (https://spoti.fi/3lbN6Oa).

Episode 106. Theories on Hiatuses, Finales, and Staying Above The Waters

One Last Time For Your Mind!

New Theory Radio will be taking an indefinite hiatus after this episode. ⁣

After over 100 shows spanning two and a half years, we have decided to pause the show in its existing form. ⁣

We wanted to thank anyone that's ever been a guest, a listener, a supporter, a sponsor, a subscriber and a champion of NTR since we started in November 2018. Getting creatives engaged through dialogue was our mandate, and we're grateful we were able to do that on a weekly basis. ⁣

We also wanted to give a BIG thank you to SAUGA 960 AM for giving our show a consistent platform. It is with their support and resources that we were able to make things happen. We're grateful to Joty, Praveen, and everyone that worked behind the scenes in ensuring that our content was hitting the airwaves. ⁣

The New Theory brand isn't going anywhere. We are going to use this time to renew our focus and plan for the future. Keep it locked on our socials over the coming months for updates on this new direction. ⁣

    --------

On this week's episode, host Nav Nanwa and his brother Amit Nanwa speak to NTR alum Radha Tailor about this decision, as well as the both of them share their favourite memories from the show during it's long run. They also provide details on what's next for New Theory.

As well, we close out our #NTRSpotlight with the ever-popular Dijah SB. Dijah makes navigating synth loops, booming bass claps and smoothed out production look easy. Their music is a raw look into the mind of a black non-binary artist rapping their way through hope, heartbreak and breakthroughs. They just dropped their highly anticipated debut album 'Head Through The Waters' last week to amazing acclaim . They speak to Nav about the album release, the trajectory they've been on since last year, and what it was like to get a 'chef's kiss' endorsement by Kid Cudi.

Episode 104. Theories on Arts Agencies, CD Burners, and Breaking Kayfabe

Episode 104. Theories on Arts Agencies, CD Burners, and Breaking Kayfabe

We 'break kayfabe' on this week's NTR!

Host Nav Nanwa kicks things off on this week's show being joined by Michael Vickers and Nuvi Sidhu from the Brampton Arts, Culture and Creative Industry Development Agency. This past February, the city of Brampton took a step forward in its ambitious vision for the arts and culture sector by starting the Agency. It was formed to act as an arms-length group that will be able to execute the priorities that were listed in the city's 2018's Culture Master Plan. Nuvi and Michael talk to Nav about the agency's creation, its priorities, and how people can get involved.

And then we switch gears to welcome Rapper Cadence Weapon. Originally from Edmonton, Cadence bursted onto the scene in 2005 with his Polaris Prize shortlisted album 'Breaking Kayfabe' This former poet laureate has consistently rejected trends and has trusted his instinct to produce some of the most innovative hip hop you can hear anywhere. His new album Parallel World comes out on April 30th, and unearths the alternate reality that lies beneath the surface of our society. Nav talks to Cadence about the album, the lost art of CD burners, why it's important for him to use his voice for social justice.
