Next Level Leadership with Jeff Cochran, Coach, Writer, and Speaker

Next Level Leadership with Jeff Cochran, Coach, Writer, and Speaker

Jeff Cochran is a leadership coach, author of Next Level Leader, speaker, and pastor who loves helping people live out their dreams and experience living their best lives. From entrepreneurs to CEOs and businesses to churches, Jeff wants to help you navigate the challenges you face and step into your full potential.

Next level leadership requires asking questions and getting to know people. First, you have to listen and then ask: "Is this the right decision to make?" then let other people in on the issue. After getting their opinion, then you can make a decision.

One small thing you can do to listen to your team is by asking: "What's one practical thing I can do that would make it easier for you to lead in your role?"

Leaders don't listen because they are insecure. You can't be insecure and lead. If you don't create a culture of safety, where we reward people for telling the truth, then eventually, they're not going to.

Many leaders stay away from conflict because they don't know the difference between tension and conflict. Healthy conflict is tension. Next-level leaders have to manage conflict without resolving tension.

Freedom is a learned skillWant is not the same thing as intent, intent requires action. Something Parker is learning right now:

    Create a Psychologically Healthy Workplace

    Create a Psychologically Healthy Workplace

Today Clint is joined by Dr. Parker, and they discuss how to create a  psychologically healthy workplace. Sometimes you create culture, sometimes you influence and change culture, but identifying the unhealthy aspects of company culture is the first step to any change. In today's episode, we lay our five research-based improvements that can help to create a healthy workplace.
Create a psychologically and physically safe environment. In general, most employees are afraid of their bosses. The best thing you can do as a leader is learning to be a great listener. Create team member involvement. People are more likely to get behind an idea that they helped create. Encourage work-life balance. Create an experience for your team where they're not burned out and overworkedInvest in team member growth and development. Top performers want to feel like they're growing and developing to become the best in their field.Develop a consistent method of appreciation. Recognize that if your team is unappreciated, they are very likely to leave their job. People lose a lot of motivation when they don't feel like they’re being seen for their contribution in the workplace. If you receive more criticism than praise, then you’re out of balance.

To brainstorm applications from today's episode, grab your journal and write out an answer to each of these questions:
How do you provide more growth opportunities? What systems could you use to get more ideas and input from your team? How could you regularly recognize and appreciate people? What evidence do you have that you model a healthy work-life balance in your own life, and how do you reward employees that do this? How could you improve your physical or psychological safety in your workplace?

    Life Lessons From Running

    Life Lessons From Running

You don’t have to be a runner to learn some valuable life lessons from running. This week Clint and Dr. Parker talk about the lessons learned from running and discuss how to apply them to your life.

The five life lessons learned from running are:
Start slow: If you try to go too far too fast, you will burn out. So instead, learn to pace yourself and make incremental improvements. Don’s stop on hills: Embrace the suck. Complete the task you set out to without stopping when you encounter resistance. Metrics are great, but they don’t tell the whole story: Chase and celebrate incremental improvements but give yourself grace for the season of life you’re in. Run your own race: Control the things you can controlIt can be fun if you let it be: Be present; you don’t have to go through life being miserable. Resources mentioned in this episode:
