    5,000 Fed

    5,000 Fed

There's nothing like a great church dinner with all the different casseroles, side dishes, desserts, etc. The great thing about them is everyone is welcomed. Even if you forgot about the dinner and didn't bring anything, the call goes out to join us anyway because, "There's always plenty to go around."
    ----------
Such was the case when Jesus fed the multitude of people who had come to hear Him teach. So much so that when they were done eating there were still twelve baskets of food that was collected. God had provided through His Son, Jesus.
    ----------
Of course, it would be short-sighted to just assume this was about providing food for hungry people. While that was indeed true, there was so much more truth that was taught through this miracle ... both then and now.

    Something Worth Dying For

    Something Worth Dying For

Matt Chandler once said, “The gospel of Jesus Christ is worth living for, yes, and it is worth dying for, of course, but we show it is supremely valuable to us when we deny ourselves and take up our crosses to be a blessing to the people who the gospel is calling us to.”
    ----------
We live in a world where hyperbole rules the day. Whether it is the overuse of words like "awesome" and "incredible" or the social media generated excitement over even the most mundane moments of daily life.
    ----------
So when we consider the phrase "something worth dying for" we should carefully consider the gravity of that statement. This Sunday, Dave shares a message from Mark 6 focusing on last days of the life of John the Baptist and exactly what he was willing to die for.

    Shake Off the Dust

    Shake Off the Dust

What does it mean to be a faithful messenger of the Gospel? What is a reasonable level of effort we should dedicate to trying to share God's Word and truth with someone? How do we handle rejection from others when we are trying to share our faith? Is it really our rejection?
    ----------
This are all questions we can ponder as we continue to make our way through our study from the book of Mark 6. We hope that as you join us and hear the Word of God taught, that His Spirit would guide you into an understanding that helps you to grow in that same wisdom and in truth.

    Without Honor

    Without Honor

One of the things that we cannot control is how people respond or feel about the things we say. We can be people of the highest integrity, with no hint of deception or indiscretion, but we cannot make someone believe us. The very essence of belief is based in the mindset of the one hearing. It can frustrate us if someone doesn't believe what we are saying is true or valid, but that is the harsh reality of sharing the Gospel or the truth of God's Word with others.
    ----------
It can be helpful to remember that, first and foremost, it is always more important to focus on what God KNOWS about us rather than to focus on what people THINK about us. But it is also vital to remember that the Son of God--the very source of truth--was not believed by the people from His hometown. In fact, Mark points out in chapter 6 that they took offense at Him.
    ----------
Perhaps it was a feeling that He was casting a "holier-than-thou" attitude and they felt like they needed to take Him down a peg. Perhaps it was those people that remembered Him as a kid and couldn't get beyond His claims to be the Messiah now. Whatever the case was, the loss was theirs. They chose to reject Him and had to live with the consequences of that choice.

The Power and Compassion of Jesus

The Power and Compassion of Jesus

One thing is clear from Jesus' ministry was that no matter how important it was for him to share His message, teach His disciples, or accomplish His Father's will, He didn't ignore the opportunity to touch people's lives who came to Him in faith.
    ----------
Such is the case in the narrative that Frank will be preaching on this Sunday--a story within a story, if you will. A father pleading for his daughter's life that Jesus might touch her and heal her; a woman, afflicted for years with a physical burden imagines through her faith that simply touching His garments might bring relief and healing to her. Two people who probably never met one another but who shared and clung to a shred of hope for healing through His healing power.
    ----------
Ironically, it is the same hope that inspires and assures us. We have all been in the same circumstance, afflicted with a hopeless situation, clinging to a faith and belief that redemption and healing comes through the Savior.

    Nothing to Fear

    Nothing to Fear

Things that go bump in the night, monsters under the bed, dark alleyways... all things that can be fear-inducing for us. Of course, our fears are often based less on what we can see and more on what we can imagine in our minds. But what if we could have real assurance that none of these things could do us harm? Wouldn't that go a long way to alleviate our fears?
    ----------
One of those unknowns that can cause fear for us is the demonic activity in the world today. It would seem to be impossible to view our world and not see demonic influence and activity that is occurring, but how much of it truly demonic influence? How much of it is just people choosing to do evil? Most importantly, how does that affect Christians today?

True to the Word

I appreciate the preaching and teaching content that comes from this church. I love the commitment to Biblical truths. That is not to say other churches don't do that. It just seems clear that NHCC has made a commitment to make sure the Word of God is not only referenced in the message but the real life applications are highlighted through those biblical truths.
