50K Souls: Make A Difference Spotlight

50K Souls: Make A Difference Spotlight

This episode is part of our Make A Difference Non Profit Spotlight Series, where we highlight non profits, organizations and individuals making a difference in their communities.
Why do we do this series? If we think we know everything about our communities and our neighbors, chances are we do not, meaning, we only see the surface or we only see the negativity, the division and we do not always get offered the stories of those in our communities who are doing it, using their powers for good. Which is what our Make A Difference Non Profit Spotlight is all about! Today we focus on 50K Souls and its founder Minister G. Mandel Copeland, who is also a musician and music director of United Faith Church of Deliverance in Salisbury, Maryland. 50KSouls is an outreach ministry that was established in 2015 and at that time, it consisted of churches and individual volunteers in the local area of Salisbury, MD.  That year was monumental for them and  #50KSouls fed 75 families and became incorporated as a non-profit organization in the State of Maryland. Their Current Strategy is to build  a network of partners (volunteers, churches, and donors) across the country, that will work together to provide outreach to those individuals and communities that find themselves in despair and need, as a result of natural disasters and/or economic disadvantages.
Plus a chat with Ilyana and James live from @nikpodroad on Janes Island National Park. Music and Lyrics by James Harrell and Ilyana Kadushin (*except for Lift Every Voice: Lyrics by James Weldon Johnson.

    Ami Vitale: National Geographic Photographer

    Ami Vitale: National Geographic Photographer

Our Special Guest: Nikon Ambassador and National Geographic Magazine photographer, Ami Vitale has traveled to more than 100 countries, bearing witness not only to violence and conflict, but also to surreal beauty and the enduring power of the human spirit. Throughout the years, Ami has lived in mud huts and war zones, contracted malaria, and donned a panda suit— keeping true to her belief in the importance of “living the story.”  In 2009, after shooting a powerful story on the transport and release of one the world’s last northern white rhinos, Ami shifted her focus to today’s most compelling wildlife and environmental stories.  In Style Magazine named Ami one of fifty Badass Women, a series celebrating women who show up, speak up and get things done. She appeared alongside a group of incredible women including Jane Goodall, Christiane Amanpour and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She has been named Magazine photographer of the year in the International Photographer of the Year prize, received the Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding Reporting and named Magazine Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association, among others. She is a six-time recipient of World Press Photos, including 1st Prize for her 2018 National Geographic magazine story about a community in Kenya protecting elephants. She recently published a best-selling book, Panda Love, on the secret lives of pandas. Vitale was the subject of the Mission Cover Shot series on the National Geographic Channel as well as another documentary series featuring Madagascar (Over the Islands of Africa).  She lectures for the National Geographic LIVE series, and she frequently gives workshops throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Her photographs have been commissioned by nearly every international publication and exhibited around the world in museums and galleries.  She is a founding member of Ripple Effect Images an organization of renowned female scientists, writers, photographers and filmmakers  working together to create powerful and persuasive stories that shed light on the hardships women in developing countries face and the programs that can help them. Adams Family Returns

    Adams Family Returns

Making art at this time on the planet and in this country is more important than ever.  The pressure is mounting and the disconnection continues and you could allow your self to be lead by others people’s thoughts and the din of social media, the cultural malaise OR you could GET DOWN AND MAKE ART, MAKE FILMS, MAKE MUSIC! That is a mantra of our guests, (another long awaited PART 2) as they have been guests on NIK POD before…The Adams Family Returns to the No, I Know Podcast!
    Who is the Adam's Family?
John Adams, Toby Poser, and their daughters, Lulu and Zelda (collectively celebrated as Adams Family Films) are a film making family under the creative marquee of Wonder Wheel Productions. They have collaborated on six features: HELLBENDER, which premiered at Fantasia Film Festival and was acquired by Shudder/AMC Networks through Yellow Veil Pictures for an early 2022 release); The Deeper You Dig (2020), which also premiered at Fantasia and is distributed by Dark Sky Films and Arrow Video; Their other films: Halfway to Zen (2016); The Shoot (2014); Knuckle Jack (2013); and Rumblestrips (2012) - all earning a hearty reception on the international festival circuit, including Best in Show and Audience awards.  For each they've employed the same DIY ethic: they write, direct, produce; they shoot, edit, act, and compose.
