Noisextra is a weekly deep dive into the world of noise in all of its forms and features album spotlights and in depth conversations with those residing in the noise world. Hosted by Greh Holger, Tara Connelly and Mike Connelly, the podcast takes a historical look at the many tentacles of noise, industrial, and experimental sounds from their distant roots to everything in between and beyond, predominantly from the pre-millennium era.
Merzbow & Christoph Heeman – Sleeper Awakes on the Edge of the Abyss
A collaboration that has come up on two recent Seven Inch Sundays, and one that was requested multiple times in our early podcast days, Merzbow & Christoph Heemann "Sleeper Awakes on the Edge of Abyss" is this week’s focus. An interesting and unexpected work, this album settles in quickly and brings up as many images as it does questions. It’s a great look at '80s Merzbow through the lens of Christoph Heemann.Check out the album on Christoph Heeman's BandcampFollow us on Instagram: @noisextraFollow us on Twitter: @noisextraaaSupport us on Patreon: patreon.com/noisextra
Killer Bug – Brutal Rainbow
A pure 90s noise tape was called for, and Killer Bug "Brutal Rainbow" answered that call. On the Noise label from Taiwan, this one tears the ground asunder. Killer Bug is the first incarnation of Kazumoto Endo, and while the cut up technique is present, "Brutal Rainbow" goes heavy on the trash, the porn, and the total noise. For the ExtraNoisextra segment on the patreon, Tara tells us about actual bugs that kill.Follow us on Instagram: @noisextraFollow us on Twitter: @noisextraaaSupport us on Patreon: patreon.com/noisextraRecent Listening:Haus Arafna - Blut: Trilogie Des Blutes / Nachblutung AlbumSuhne Mensch - SchmerzportraitMoth Drakula - s/tMeryll Ampe - W7EDust Belt - Melting Atlantis ResurrectionMlehst - Breathing in Dead FliesMlehst - History of MlehstMlehst - Bitter Regret (Back to the Iron Age)Mlehst - Deep Throat and FelchingSelf Abuse Murder Series ASM - Mission Hill 2001Richard Ramirez - Protective CustodyLinekraft - Bankrupt of Morals

Contact Microphones with Crank Sturgeon
The original Trashware guest is back in the hot seat. Crank Sturgeon proposed a discussion on contact microphones, so in this episode we go over what a contact mic is, general applications, how to record and affix the mics and amplifying slightly more traditional instruments. We also cover why the contact microphone is the perfect noise instrument, contact mics vs other microphones, in the studio and in the field, using with synthesizers and modular, troubleshooting contact mic issues, and plenty of Cranky anecdotes! This episode originally came from our Patreon, so thanks to all our Patrons for making it possible. In Conversation with JG Thirlwell
JG Thirlwell was cool enough to to sit down with us for a deep look into his world of sound. Thirlwell has worked with everyone form Steven Stapleton and Coil to scoring "The Venture Brothers" and "Archer" television shows, not to mention his own hefty discography as Foetus, Steroid Maximus, Xordox and so much more. It was incredible to hear stories from his entire history as well as what’s being planned for the future. Prepare to enter Pigdom Come. For the ExtraNoisextra on the patreon, we talk more about being signed to a major label in the 90s and the atmosphere surrounding that, as well as Thirlwell's recent listening.Visit JG Thirlwell's comprehensive site at foetus.org and check out his BandCampFollow us on Instagram: @noisextraFollow us on Twitter: @noisextraaaSupport us on Patreon: patreon.com/noisextra
Atrax Morgue feat. Morder Machine – DeathShow
Our yearly Marco Corbelli episode has arrived and this time we went for something a little different — Morder Machine “DeathShow.” A project that existed directly alongside Atrax Morgue, Morder Machine utilized a bit more structure and rhythm without losing any darkness and obsession. We pull quotes directly about Morder Machine and relay Marco’s thoughts on the project. Additionally, we continue our tradition of choosing three Italian horror movies to highlight before discussing the album. Welcome to DeathShow. For the ExtraNoisextra segment on the patreon, we watch and discuss Atrax Morgue/Morder Machine live footage.Follow us on Instagram: @noisextraFollow us on Twitter: @noisextraaaSupport us on Patreon: patreon.com/noisextra
If you love music history, than you’ll definitely love this podcast. No other podcast out there like it!!
Horrible customer service.
Long time listener. Reached out to one of their guests to buy music and was lambasted by the artist for disagreeing with their prices.
Anyway, I’m leaving my furnace on for 5 hours and recording it with my phone while I’m asleep. Then I’m going to tell people it’s Chernobyl.
