Nurture and Support

Nurture and Support is a podcast about sharing cool discoveries. It might be a good book, an old/new movie, a great app for your phone, or a podcast almost as fun as this one. While these could be nearly anything, common themes will likely emerge related to: bad sci-fi movies, zombies, corgis (Mel), Alice Cooper (Kelly), Firefly, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, etc...     Listen to some great music while you manage your money #189

    Slow and steady wins the race.  Finally another podcast….. Mel’s recommendation: You Need a Budget web app Mel recommends a handy zero-bed based budgeting tool this show.  She has actually been using it for over 6 months and it has proved very useful.  Annual and monthly subscriptions are available.  You also get a free trial period that runs just over a month so you can take it for a spin prior to buying.      Kelly’s recommendation: Oranges & Lemons by XTC Kelly revisits a favorite album by a too often overlooked band, XTC.  This is a double album featuring 15 songs released in 1989.  Songs range from pop (Mayor of Simpleton) to the more adventurous (Across This Antheap).  Highly listenable!!   If interested, check out the lengthy Wikipedia article on Oranges & Lemons that I mentioned.       And as promised, the awesome Mayor of Simpleton video… This episode is also available on YouTube Want to subscribe to our podcast?     Be sure to check out the Oculus Quest 2 and the Alien III audiobook

    Nurture & Support returns 🙂 Mel and I hope to get back to at least a monthly update for the podcast.   Here is one in a row… Kelly’s recommendation: Oculus Quest 2 After many failed attempts, I finally have a VR device I love.  No computer required, easy set up, and amazing VR experiences.  Definitely worth a look (and once you get it, get the Vader Immortal series!)      Mel’s recommendation: Alien III audiobook Mel LOVES the Alien series.  Well, except for Alien 3 movie, which she pretty much hates… UNTIL she came across an alternative script by William Gibson available on Audible.  It runs just over 2 hours and features some of the original cast including Michael Biehn and Lance Henriksen!   This episode is also available on YouTube Want to subscribe to our podcast?     Awesome scary podcast – The Shadow Diaries (Nurture & Support {Cobbler} 186)

    This week in sort of a Nurture and Support and Squat Cobbler combo, we visit with Gerald Webb about the amazing podcast “The Shadow Diaries” brought to you by the good folks at Studio71 and Snarled Entertainment. This podcast stars Madelaine Petsch & Kara Hayward and around episode 4, our favorite cantankerous, ugly shirt wearing friend Gerald Webb shows up. In a few weeks the season finale will be published and we plan to do a “tweet sync” where we all start the podcast off of the Snarled YouTube channel playlist at the same time and tweet along with it with Gerald and maybe some surprise guests joining in.     Recommendations: The Boys and Art With Flo (Nurture & Support 185)

    Special treat around the 18:30 mark 🙂 Kelly’s recommendation –  The Boys This Amazon show is based on the graphic novels of the same name by Garth Ennis. While there are many tweaks, it does effectively bring forward the dark, funny, dark, strange world of the graphic novel.  If you have problems with profanity.. not your show. If you have problems with VERY dark situations… not your show.  The cast and writing are spectacular!       Mel’s recommendation –  Art With Flo Just like Kelly, Mel remains on the lookout for a graphic art Sherpa.  Flo seems to be the ticket for her.  Flo provides easy to follow, concise guidance on using Procreate.  Flo doesn’t assume you have the highest end equipment, in fact Mel was able to keep up with her vintage iPad Air and generation 1 Apple Pencil.   As promised, here is Mel’s first project.   Nice job!!         This episode is also available on YouTube Want to subscribe to our podcast?     Tale of the Nine-Tailed and Canva recommendations (Nurture & Support 184)

    Some recommendations from two rising TikToc stars…. Mel’s recommendation –  Tale of the Nine-Tailed Mel recommends viewing a Korean drama/urban fantasy called “Tale of the Nine-Tailed” (post crowded sourced translation).   It is steeped in humor, mythology, action, and a camera-friendly cast 🙂 She also snuck in TicTok, VIKI, and Goblin mini-recommendations.     Kelly’s recommendation –  Canva  While Kelly continues to make progress on learning GIMP, he can still use some help.  Canva.com offers outstanding, flexible templates for a huge variety of items from YouTube banners, candle labels, greeting cards and MUCH more.  Even if you are using the free version you can save your work to tweak at a later date.     Aicook electric tea kettle review and a great GIMP tutorial YouTube channel – Nurture & Support 182

    This week Mel returns to Amazon and Kelly FINALLY learns GIMP (sorta) Mel’s recommendation:  Aicook Electric Kettle After years of irresponsible tea brewing, Mel picked up an electric kettle with presets for the best temperature to brew green tea, white tea, Oolong tea, black tea, and coffee.  She has really noticed the difference in flavor, and outside of missing the cool blue LED light on her old kettle, she has been very satisfied.       Kelly’s recommendation:  Logos by Nick YouTube channel After years of irresponsible editing, Kelly is FINALLY moving on from his Paint Shop Pro (version 6) graphics tool to one released in this decade… GIMP.  Nick’s channel has both GIMP and Inkscape tutorials that are easy to follow and well constructed.  Nick also has a website with even more helpful content.  Here are a couple of logos he did using Nick’s tutorials… This episode is also available on YouTube Want to subscribe to our podcast?
