Change Your Life and Share Your Story With Julie Lokun

Change Your Life and Share Your Story With Julie Lokun

In today's episode, we delve into the complexities of life's challenges and the importance of knowing you're not alone. I share some profound realizations I've had recently, emphasizing the value of having a coach, therapist, or impartial confidant to navigate life's twists and turns, big or small.

Even those seemingly trivial issues can weigh heavily on us, impacting our daily narratives and self-perception. We often find ourselves battling our inner demons, especially during certain stages of life or under external pressures like hormonal shifts or dreary weather.
Reflecting on past joys, I realize the need to break free from unhealthy c
oping mechanisms, like escaping into Netflix binges, and instead seek genuine connections and community interactions. This realization is a cathartic journey, acknowledging that while my struggles may not be as severe as others', they are still valid and worth sharing.
I aspire to be a beacon of strength and positivity for others, but honesty compels me to admit my own struggles. Suppressing emotions only perpetuates isolation, hindering the potential for empathy and understanding among us all.

So, let's embrace the power of storytelling, both internally and externally. Let's challenge the facade of perfection and encourage authenticity. Because it's through these shared experiences and vulnerabilities that we truly connect and find solace in our shared humanity. We want to know who you are obsessed with--Watch Us LIVE on YouTube Every Monday - @obsessedpodcast

Friends, Connecting and Belonging: The Journey of Grief and How To Talk About Hard Things

Friends, Connecting and Belonging: The Journey of Grief and How To Talk About Hard Things

    What does loneliness mean?
According to Brené Brown, acclaimed author of "Atlas of the Heart," loneliness is not merely about being alone but rather the absence of meaningful social connections. It's the lack of intimate relationships, friendships, family gatherings, and community or work group ties that leaves one feeling isolated.

In our current world, there's a visible trend of increasing disconnection among people, with divides widening across various lines such as race, gender, ethnicity, political beliefs, religions, and philosophies. Paradoxically, this disconnect is also fostering movements that strive to bring people together in solidarity, driven by a shared humanity and a collective yearning for a better world.
However, navigating this landscape requires immense strength and vulnerability. Remaining open-hearted amidst the challenges of today's world is daunting yet essential for survival. Loneliness, therefore, is more than just physical solitude; it's a state of disconnection that can affect anyone, even when surrounded by others, as exemplified by Tia's experience of profound loneliness following her sister's passing.
In this episode, Tia and Julie explore the nuances of loneliness, its link to disconnection, and strategies for overcoming it. They share personal insights and stories, shedding light on the journey from loneliness and disconnection towards rebuilding connections and finding belonging.

This episode is dedicated to Shelby Sandahl, Tia's beloved sister, whose impact on others' lives is remembered with love and gratitude.
Key takeaways from this episode include:

Understanding the distinction between loneliness and solitude.Recognizing loneliness as a symptom of disconnection.Navigating the depths of despair and self-compassion.Cultivating self-awareness to confront loneliness.Embracing the inevitability of change and its impact on relationships.Developing emotional resilience as a shield against pain.Engaging in the process of rebuilding and reconnecting with one's community.
For further exploration, resources mentioned in the episode include Brené Brown's insights on core emotions and her book "Atlas of the Heart," along with the podcast episode "Obsessed with Leaning into Grief" featuring Heidi Dunstan.

Stop Drinking So Much with Sober Goddess Julie Jacobs

Stop Drinking So Much with Sober Goddess Julie Jacobs

What does it mean to be a goddess? And how can you be a sober goddess? In today’s episode our gorgeous guest talks about the power of neutrality on the road to goddess-hood. Julie is obsessed with the perfect lip and the power of being a sober human.

For our guest Julie Jacobs, it means learning about yourself, what makes you happy, and how you can contribute to the planet. It means having a solid sense of self-awareness and connection with your intuition. It means embracing your femininity and using your power for good. It means living your life with purpose, and passion, and positively impacting the world.

As women, we sometimes put undue pressure on ourselves to succeed, be the perfect wife and mother (or to have it all), look a certain way, and have an answer for everything. For Julie, the key to unlocking our full potential as women - and living our best lives - is discovering our goddessness.

We are all goddesses, but discovering and unlocking our goddessness can be challenging. This is very much applicable in today's world, where many women feel overwhelmed and confused since there is no one right way to live your life and there is no single answer to the question of what makes someone. In this episode, Julie will share some tips on how you can start discovering your goddessness and sharing the message with other women.

Julie uses service, humor, and curiosity to guide women to confidently live their most beautiful lives. A sober human, military spouse, mother, and champion of women, she channels her gifts and skills through Julie Jacobs Coaching. Here, she provides women a safe place, inclusive, and thorough coaching experience. In addition, she is also the host of the Goddess Gather Here Podcast, where she and her guests delve into the business of self-care, personal growth, glass ceiling shattering, and lifting each other.

Shame, Guilt And Humiliation. A Talk About Brene Brown's Book Atlas of The Heart With Dr. Laura Cobb

Shame, Guilt And Humiliation. A Talk About Brene Brown's Book Atlas of The Heart With Dr. Laura Cobb

Based on research, Brene Brown writes, We can define humiliation as the intensity, the intensely painful feeling that we have been unjustly degraded, ridiculed, or put down, and that our identity has been demeaned or devalued.
    From Dr. Laura Cobb-
"I wasn't good per se. The one time I felt like I was special was when I was voted captain my senior year, not because I was good. of my talent, but because of my ability to ring people up, the ringleader, the cheerleader, only to the extent of, we got this, let's do this, I support you. So after that, what manifested as I grew through my collegiate career, after 12 years of spending time sitting in a seat, listening to other people talk and writing some papers.

I walked across the stage as the Dean said to me, congratulations, Dr. Cobb. And I looked over my shoulder and I realized that she was talking to me. And for about 15 seconds, as I continued to walk across the stage, I was on a high like euphoria I'd never known. And I thought, oh my gosh, I did that. This is it."

Brene Brown, the author of Atlas of the Heart (a book we are obsessed with), defines humiliation as:

The intensely painful feeling that we have been unjustly degraded, ridiculed, or put down, and that our identity has been demeaned or devalued.

Almost everyone has experienced the sensation of being humiliated. It's a feeling of helplessness, embarrassment, and rejection. Humiliation can quickly determine how we view ourselves in the years to come.

Dr. Cobb shares her own humiliation experiences and how they negatively impacted her life -- which extended to personal problems, eating disorders, and alcoholism.

For Dr. Cobb, humiliation doesn't necessarily have to be what other people see as it takes place in our minds and how it manifests in our bodies. But fortunately, she shares insights on how to get out of it!

Dr. Laura Cobb is a life coach who empowers high-achieving women to rid themselves of fear, guilt, and shame to proudly and confidently suit up, show up, step up, and speak up at every opportunity. She sees herself as an ordinary woman making extraordinary choices one day at a time.

What You Will Learn From This Episode:

01:33 - What Dr. Laura Cobb is obsessed with
04:02 - Dr. Cobb’s personal experiences with humiliation
15:03 - The deterioration that comes with feeling humiliated
16:27 - The demonic nature of humiliation
17:58 - Losing a lot of important things
25:43 - Pulling oneself out of humiliation
30:57 - The meaning of hope
