NHL Draft Preview, Oilers rumours, and a whole lot more

NHL Draft Preview, Oilers rumours, and a whole lot more

It’s NHL Draft week and the boys are back with a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you get ready with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On today’s show, we looked at the Jesse Puljujarvi situation, waiting on Mike Smith and Duncan Keith, draft week predictions, and a whole lot more.
Kicking off this week’s podcast, we got started with a look ahead at the NHL Draft that's coming up on Thursday and Friday of this week, and what kind of moves the Oilers may make as they navigate the weekend.
Could the first-round pick be on the move? Will a roster player get traded? From there, we dove into the Jesse Puljujarvi situation and got everyone's feelings on what could be the end of the road for a former 4th overall pick. Regardless of what happens in this situation, Oilers fans are going to have passionate takes regardless of what happens and it will be fascinating to see how these rumours actually play out. Sticking with the rumour mill, we also looked at the potential for Claude Giroux coming to Edmonton after a couple of insiders stated that there could be a fit between the Oilers and the former Flyers captain. Even if the Giroux rumours don't come to fruition, the Oilers are being linked to plenty of moves and players these days and that could make for a spicy couple of weeks around here and I am incredibly excited to see how it all plays out.

Goaltending predictions and the Pacific Division

It’s Tuesday afternoon and that means we’ve got a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you get through the middle part of your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers.
On today’s show, we looked at the Oilers' goaltending, the Pacific Division, offseason predictions, and a whole lot more.

Whether it's Mike Smith coming back or trading for someone new or fishing in free agency, the goaltending situation in Edmonton will be a major storyline to follow over the next few months as it is an obvious area of need around these parts. From there, the boys looked around the Pacific Division and tried to figure out which team will be the most intriguing to watch as we navigate the next couple of months. Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with another round of Ask the Idiots and a plug for the Jaysnation viewing party that will be happening at the Pint Downtown this coming Friday. Potential offseason additions & hypothetical Connor Hellebuyck trades?

Potential offseason additions & hypothetical Connor Hellebuyck trades?

A new episode of Oilersnation Radio is here to take you into the weekend! It was a bit of a different vibe today on the show as both Baggedmilk and Rick were away so Coomzy and Woz stepped up and filled in. To start today’s show, Yaremchuk threw the group a question about what the Oilers backup plan should be in the event they aren’t able to bring back Evander Kane. Dan questioned whether or not there is even a comparable replacement out there while Cam wondered if the money would be better spent on goaltending.
From there, they talked about NHL blockbuster deals that they remembered as kids and then looked into which teams could make big splashes this summer. One of the team’s that popped up in that conversation was the Winnipeg Jets and that led the group to talking about what kind of package the Oilers could put together for goaltender Connor Hellebucyk.
To wrap up today’s show, they took some listener questions in ‘Ask The Idiots’ presented by Busters Pizza. There were some interesting questions thrown their way about golf and the future. They also gave their Twig & Barry’s Hot & Cold Performers of the week! As always, you can find the episode wherever you get your podcasts from. Don’t forget to subscribe!

    Woody is back!!!

    Woody is back!!!

WOODY IS BACK! Dan, Rick, Tyler, and Zach kicked off today’s episode of Oilersnation Radio by talking about the three-year deal that the Oilers gave Head Coach Jay Woodcroft. It wasn’t entirely surprising to see the deal get done but it’s still a bit of a relief that it finally got taken care of. They also speculated on who else could be on the Oiler’s bench next season.
From there, they handled today’s Oodle Noodle Delicious Debate, which was centred around the Oiler's three pending RFA forwards. If you could go long-term with one of Yamamoto, Puljujarvi, or McLeod, who would you pick? The guys gave their thoughts on that.
They also talked about the trade rumours involving Tyson Barrie. There are reportedly a handful of teams that could be interested in acquiring him so the boys broke down some potential landing spots and also talked about what the return could be. There is a rumour floating around that Ethan Bear could be on his way out of Carolina so that was discussed.
From there, they moved on to Ask The Idiots where they fielded questions about their favourite Woodcroft memories, the impact he could have on the team next season, and also a fun ‘LIV Golf’ themed one!

Fake Trade Proposals & The Idea of Trading The First-Round Pick

Fake Trade Proposals & The Idea of Trading The First-Round Pick

A new episode of Oilersnation Radio is here to take you into the weekend! Baggedmilk was away today, so it was just Tyler, Rick and Dan with you for an hour of straight hockey talk and if you're a fan of offseason rumours and fake trade proposals, then you will love this episode. To kick things off, they handled today's Oodle Noodle Delicious Debate, which was: on a scale of 1-10 how comfortable would you be with the Oilers trading their first-round pick in this year's NHL Draft? The guys agreed that they'd be okay with doing it, depending on the return, but this sparked an extensive conversation about what kind of forward the Oilers should target.
After debating over the likes of Alex DeBrincat and Josh Anderson for a while, they realized that the Oiler's biggest need is not scoring wingers. Ken Holland needs to find a starting goaltender and a defenseman. They kicked around a few 'armchair GM' style trade proposals that involved the likes of Mackenzie Blackwood, Semyon Varlamov, and Jacob Chychrun. To wrap up the episode, they had a new edition of 'Ask The Idiots' for Busters Pizza where they talked about their dislike of mosquitos and hangovers plus they played a fun game where they combined to Oilers to make one super player! They also gave their Twig & Barry's Hot & Cold Performers of the week!

The potential Zack Kassian buyout, Mike Smith's future, and the CBA

The potential Zack Kassian buyout, Mike Smith's future, and the CBA

It’s Tuesday afternoon and that means we’ve got a brand new episode of Oilersnation Radio to help you get through the middle part of your week with an hour of all things Edmonton Oilers. On today’s show, we looked at some of the names that are circling the rumour mill, the question marks around Smith and Keith, and a whole lot more.
Kicking off this week’s podcast, we got started with a look at the Zack Kassian buyout question and whether or not it would make sense for the Oilers to buy him out if a trade becomes impossible. It's not that Kass isn't an NHL player but with a $3.25 million cap hit, his name keeps coming up as one that needs to get cleared out if the Oilers are going to find some additional cap space. Would there be anyone that would be willing to trade for Kassian? Does it have to be a buyout? From there, we looked at the Mike Smith retirement situation after Elliotte Friedman speculated that the 40-year-old may be a candidate to put on LTIR rather than a full-on retirement. Sticking with potential retirements, we also looked at the speculation that the NHL is going to potentially change its cap recapture penalties in the event that Duncan Keith retires as the Blackhawks would then face a penalty if he hung up his skates before the full term expired. Not sure why the league would treat its own CBA as a suggestion more than a binding document but that's where we're at these days, I suppose. Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots to get the boys' takes on the questions you've submitted since our last podcast.

The Reason for Being an Oilers Fan

Being an Oilers fan in Rhode Island is tough, but you all are the reason I keep hanging on. McDavid, Nuge, Draisaitl…whoever the players are, may come and go, but listening to your show is the highlight of my week. I just wish you were on more often!

Oilers Nation 4Life

This is probably the best Oilers podcast period. The hosts have a good dynamic and knowledge about hockey. Makes me feel like I’m living in the city again. One tip to try to cut down on the profanity for those with kids. Good job all.

Out of market Oiler

I’m an Oilers fan in Jacksonville, FL. When I had my daughter I decided I couldn’t just raise her a sad Jags fan. Hockey is the only other sport I enjoy watching and after extensive research I have committed to the Oilers ever since. It’s been great! In addition to the awesome personalities on the team, I really enjoy hearing your perspectives. The episode about playoff memories took me back to my childhood when the Jags were in the playoffs every year. With similar success and failures over the last 26 years, I can truly relate to the Oilers. Cheering for McDavid is a real treat, hoping Trevor Lawrence can be that for the Jags. Keep up the great work, and thanks for letting me ride along with you all! #YEG
