On Healing and Redemption with Elaine Mingus

Be the Dream

Join Karaleigh in an interview with the truly inspiring Elaine Mingus.

After experiencing sexual abuse at the hands of a church youth pastor, Elaine quickly spiraled into a deep depression that lead her to use coping mechanisms such as bulimia, alcohol, and drugs. It wasn't until one day when she walked into a church, did she have a deep revelation that all her answers were not found anywhere in this world. She's recovered from all her many habits and addictions to go on to have 7 children that her and her husband homeschool, a successful 6-figure vintage furniture business in Austin, Texas and recently ran for Mrs. Texas 2023.

Favorite takeaways:

1. Your journey to healing from trauma can look like a thousand things. There’s no one-way journey, there’s no right or wrong way to get to that healing place, as long as you get to the next step.

2. I am going to be still and know that you are God and it is not actually my job to fix the world. It is your job, and you hold it all in your hands and I am just a recipient of your grace and your mercy in this moment. I’m gonna let you fix it. Here.

3. We feel like we have to control everything and there’s not enough time, but the answer to everything is to trust God.

4. When we don’t take a day of rest, we’re teaching our children not to rest- that they’re not allowed to rest. We’re building up this hustle culture. It’s so engrained in us to try to earn our salvation.

5. If we could just rest and just trust and know that what will be will be. Everything that is supposed to be yours will come to you if you just realize that you don’t have to fight for it, it’s already yours.

6. All the things that I was chasing before are now chasing me. It’s just so cool to watch God at work because it’s so much more of a place of rest, not a place of hustle.

7. He didn’t give us these passions for no reason. God did not put these things on our hearts for us to suffer through never doing them. We just have to give it to Him and let Him be in charge of what that looks like and maybe it looks different than what we thought it would.
