Rounding out our exploration of the On The Impossible Past album, we finally come to Freedom Bridge. Jason Yablon (of album-themed ice cream Cathartic Confections fame) visited the studio in December 2019 to chat with Cheska about the various characters this song highlights, connections to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (or a lack thereof), and how this track follows a popular songwriting style from the 60s. One of the heavier conversations we’ve had on the show, we’re talking about capitalism (again) and what it’s like to see the people around you fall victim to circumstance.
This wraps up the 13 songs on On The Impossible Past - and once the smoke of COVID-19 clears, we will have plenty of new episodes spanning the Menzingers entire catalogue. Stick with us, listen back to all 13 episodes, and hang in there, friends.

From the irresistible count-in to the unique song structure and slow build to the song’s climax - I Can’t Seem To Tell is undeniably killer. Craig Shay (Cold Wrecks/Answering Machine/funny on Twitter) joins Cheska to talk about the song’s earlier iteration and how it influenced the final product, early and often forgotten bangers, which Menzingers songs should/should not be reimagined as R&B songs and how every Menzingers fan is 38. Period.

If you’ve ever gotten drunk before doing the dishes, we have some stuff to talk about. Discussing Casey, best friends Mike Yabs and Ari Kattowski crack open a few cold ones and chat with Cheska about eerie life parallels between the song and reality, misheard lyrics, and general punk tomfoolery. Also, they unanimously agree that The Menzingers should write a Christmas song.
Mike runs A Few Good Records - a label focused on releasing various charity compilations and making cassettes. Ari is an amazing artist who contributes her talents to A Few Good Records’ compilation art amongst other things. Her most remarkable achievement is stealing the handle @MikeYabs during the recording of this episode.

Awesome in-depth analysis with fun commentary
OTIP is not only a deep dive of one of the greatest bands of contemporary punk rock, but its also fun and witty conversation between people passionate about music in general.
The Menzingers are such an important band in modern music and On The Impossible Past holds some of their strongest work to date — this podcast covers the album from start to finish while feeling like you’re having a conversation with old friends. Highly recommend!
