We spend almost 100,000 hours of our lives working (probably more like 200,000 for entrepreneurs, let’s be honest).

What if work didn’t have to suck? What if it can be fun?

On the Up and Up™️ podcast challenges the status quo of the boring workplace, and teaches leaders how to use HR, legal, and ethics to boost the fun factor of your business. Welcome to the show!

Every week, we talk about the real reality behind leadership and management. Not the buzzwords and HR appropriate policies, but the good, the bad, and the juicy gossip that comes with the behind-the-scenes of running a business.

Come laugh and hang with us every Wednesday while your host, Kira La Forgia (seen in Forbes and Scribd), shoots the (sometimes HR inappropriate) sh*t with badass founders, diverse managers, and kickass employees to help us build cultures that matter.

Because your favorite HR lady may have fired your bestie or made you sign a love contract, but we also have all the gossip that will make you better at your job, whether you’re on your way up the corporate ladder, are a fellow HR villain, or are building a culture as a rising entrepreneur.

If this resonated with you, join us every Wednesday for your weekly dose of HR fun!

Ep. 84: How To Create Seamless Employee Onboarding [Beyond The Paperwork]

There are two sides of the seamless onboarding coin:
There’s the one most people think about, which is all the compliance stuff. Paperwork, forms, yada yada yada.

But today we’re talking about the other side: the cultural elements of seamless onboarding that contribute to not only the employee experience, but the leadership experience as well.

Join us as we talk through the 4 stages of an employee’s onboarding (which start before you’re even paying them!) with tips to make each one seamless and reflective of your culture as possible.

Ep. 83: Hot Take: Documentation Is The Dark Horse Of Accountable Company Cultures

Ep. 83: Hot Take: Documentation Is The Dark Horse Of Accountable Company Cultures

Let’s talk about one basic skill (dare I say, the #1 skill) that every business owner and leader can bolster within their teams to cultivate a culture rich in accountability, empowerment, productivity, and long-term relationships.
This skill is the answer to questions about how to build a proactive and engaged team while simultaneously creating an environment that’s in line with the way that you’re leading.
Surprisingly, this skill isn’t something you’ll find in most management books, and it’s probably not something you’ve encountered in the usual corporate settings. But it’s completely transformed the cultures of businesses who do it well.
So…what is it, and how do you learn it?

Ep. 82: Are These 5 Biases in Hiring Sabotaging Your Dream Team?

Ep. 82: Are These 5 Biases in Hiring Sabotaging Your Dream Team?

As an entrepreneur, you’re not expected to magically transform into a professional recruiter overnight. Interviewing without letting bias crash the party is a learned skill, not something that just pops into your brain the moment you launch your business.
But the truth still remains: bias in hiring is a sneaky thief that shrinks your candidate pool down to a fraction of what it could be.
Don’t worry, today’s episode isn’t about making you an expert recruiter. It’s simply about bringing your awareness to the 5 common biases we see in hiring, and recognizing how sneaky they are. Plus 3 tips for actively combating them in your own processes. Once you know what to look for and how to address them, ensuring your hiring process and team dynamics are fair and in everyone’s best interest can become a conscious effort.

Tune in now and take the next step in building a diverse and inclusive team!

Not your momma’s HR!!

I’ve never heard HR concept broken down better and in a more accessible way than how Kira does it! As someone who isn’t a business owner but a freelancer and employee, hearing about the in’s and outs of owning a business from the other side of the table makes me a more well rounded employee and candidate for future work! I’ve got a better understanding of these concepts than I could ever gather in a typical “boring” HR presentation. It’s fresh, fun, and most importantly, packed with value!
