Being a person in the world ft. Max Huskins

Welcome back to the DJ Doran show! We've taken some time off to contemplate, plan, and record new shows in 2022.  We have a lot of exciting episodes in development so stay tuned for those in the near future!

Now we want to introduce the wonderful Max Huskins to the show! Dj met Max on a recent trip to Colombia & figured that he'd be a great guest on our show. Max will be returning form time to time as a recurring guest in the future.

On this episode Max and DJ offer their opinions on the current state or the workplace, trends the job market, and what it's like to operate as a business owner under the current pressures of the world.

    More about Max:

Film Maker | Content Creator | Traveler | Activist

    My name is Maxim Kohàna,
I'm an Artist, Director, Camera Operator, AC, Photographer, Documentarian, Cinematographer, Actor, Content Creator, Designer, Traveler & Adventurer.
    Currently residing in Portland,OR.
A more personal note about me:
I was born and raised in Ukraine and moved to America as a teenager, which resulted in me being fluent in both Russian, Ukrainian and English. I'm a huge lover of the arts, especially fascinated by cinema. I have a deep passion and appreciation for the curiosity of the human mind. Some of my other hobbies and ventures include online video and social media presence, as well as traveling. I think we could all broaden our horizons through travel by immersing our selves in different cultures. I'm always seeking to find the thrill of adventure and to connect with new people around the world. My favourite thing is being able to share my thoughts, experiences and unique perspective on life through the lens of my camera. Life isn’t about the mundane routine but rather constantly pushing the creative boundaries, bettering each other and our surroundings. Also, most importantly to never stop dreaming and making those dreams a reality.

Becoming Brave with Coach Alex Ray

Becoming Brave with Coach Alex Ray

Welcome to another episode of the DJ Doran show, your sane radio obsession.

Today we welcome Coach Alex Ray of the Becoming Brave Podcast. Alex Ray is a life coach who helps others in the LGBTQIA+ community overcome insecurity. He teaches bravery as a way to overcome low self-esteem, people pleasing, and fear of failure. He's a coach, podcaster, speaker and doggie dad.

Alex's heroic story of self-development is one that many of our listeners can relate to. As you'll hear in the show, Alex faced imposter syndrome, suicidal thoughts, and low self-worth on the road to finding true confidence. Ultimately Alex found a path of progress not measured by standards of vanity but rather, by the relationship he had with his authentic self.

Alex offers many amazing pieces of wisdom to our listeners throughout the show. Topics include: hitting rock bottom, self-worth, toxic gay culture, building self-confidence, and many more incredible subjects.

    "From ultra-insecure to truly confident"

    Seeking Knowledge & Wisdom

    Seeking Knowledge & Wisdom

Welcome to another episode of the DJ Doran Show. This week we welcome Chris Burcher of the "Knowledge + Wisdom = Experience" Podcast. Chris draws on his eclectic life experiences to build  interesting perspectives through logic, reason, and reflection. In this episode you'll hear DJ and Chris discuss a wide variety of topics including truth, wisdom, communication, and overall human connection.

    More about Chris:

I am a free thinking naval gazer. Like a lot of people I am curious and ponder life’s big questions. I am most interested in learning about my roles as husband, father (of 4 daughters), son, brother, and friend. I also strive to improve my role in my community. My life experience and perspective has given me a distinct outlook I would like to nurture and modify by connecting through podcasts and video communications. I am comfortable drawing my own conclusions (through knowledge and experience!) about the world around me but I do so as constrained by things I have learned in the past that (largely) no longer work.

    5 Steps Towards Positivity

    5 Steps Towards Positivity

How do you move a mountain? One stone at a time.

We are all being hit with a constant firehose of information about the US election, the state of the world, & so many other negative stimuli.  We decided that it may be helpful to bring back former guest, Jeff Bonano of the Do Something Nice Podcast to hear some practical advice about maintaining positivity during these trying times. Jeff called in from his new sound booth in his recording studio to share some helpful advice for maintaining positivity during the pandemic.

We hope that you are able to take some of what Jeff says in this podcast and put it to good use. We all really need some positivity right now and Jeff has put forth some easily implementable practices to help you build positive habits in your life.

If you didn’t catch our first episode with Jeff, check out this episode so you can learn more about his journey & why he started his podcast.

    Community Connections: Steve Foster

    Community Connections: Steve Foster

We had the pleasure to sit down with Steve Foster (virtually) and learn about his life, his acting career, and his commitment to helping his community. Between acting, media & communications, being a Chaplain; Steve is an incredibly busy person but has many great stories from all of these experiences. In this episode we learn about Steve's life, his time as a Chaplain, and the concept of "Choosing your hard."

One of the biggest takeaways from this conversation for us was when Steve brought up the concept of “Choose your hard.” This sounds rather simple at first but the sentiment is profound. In short, every choice we make has a series of difficulties that follows. Leaving is hard, staying is hard, choose your hard. The statement calls for us to be present in all of our decisions because if you’re really paying attention, there are challenges everywhere we look. This could go in conjunction with the concept of “The grass is always greener,” in that people tend to look over the fence and long for the ‘other” option because it may appear to be easier, or greener. At the end of the day, we must make choices, and it is better to face what we’ve chosen for better or for worse and live in the moment while being present for the situation we are in.

We've had a wonderful time connecting with so many local Chicagoans over the past few months. If you know of anyone who you'd think would be a great fit for the show please reach out to us!
