Fun and Imaginative with Deep World Lore
This podcast is a great example of a group of real friends enjoying a game of D&D as it is meant to be played. If you played a long time ago and feel nostalgic for that time, this podcast will bring you back. If you recently had a D&D game, but it ended too early, you can feel like you are back in it. If you love D&D and you are looking for new ideas for a campaign or new ways to play a character, you will love this.
This podcast is a bit raw at times (definitely not overproduced), but there is deep, established world lore and the PCs are true to their characters, resulting in a genuine, real life game feel.
Captures the fun of roleplaying with a group of friends
There is a special kind of magic to sitting around the table with good friends and playing a tabletop game. This podcast manages to capture much of what is great about that experience.
The audio quality is excellent, and the voices of both the players and the DM come in loud and clear. There is a good mix of combat, exploration, and interaction with NPCs. And the combat isn't just hack and slash dice rolling--instead, the players always seem to come up with interesting approaches. Sometimes, they are at odds in these approaches, and in the first episode, one player is desperately trying to make peace with a pack of monsters while the rest of the party seems to have other ideas. This is exactly the kind of emergent storytelling that is great about DnD.
Most importantly, from start to finish, it is clear this is a group of real friends playing because they love the game. The group laughs and has fun together, and the listener feels drawn into the familiar sense of enjoying a game with friends.
That sense of authentic friendship and gaming is critical. If someone wants a show, they have many options, from netflix to audiobooks. A DnD podcast has to offer something different, and this podcast does so: an opportunity to feel like you are around the table yourself with good friends.
