Optus Data Breach... Some thoughts on a classic Media Beat Up Thoughts on X... A Virtualization is Life! Podcast

[Updated]

Little more info has come out over the weekend and I've added some commentary to the start of the Podcast covering that. In a nutshell, if this was an open API then that changes the narrative around human error being the weakest link in this specific Optus event. However it doesn't change that being a common form of entry for a malicious actor. I still think the media is attempting to crucify Optus in their entirety for this. Yes a very very costly mistake, but one that needs learning from as IT professional.

Something which we are doing by bringing out information such as this thread below from Jeremy Kirk:

This week in Australia, one of our largest telco's got breached with sensitive client data being exposed. That data included names, numbers and passport details... serious yes but what we have seen in the media today has been a massive witch hunt that is unfairly blaming Optus for... what is becoming an almost weekly event around the world. Cybercrime is on the up and you are only as strong as your weakest link... some thoughts here.
