Otherwise Objectionable

The true story of the most misunderstood law on the internet. Tech journalist Mike Masnick brings you inside the making of Section 230 of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, featuring witnesses to Silicon Valley’s Wild West era, the Congressmen who wrote the law, and innovators who benefited from its balance of freedom and responsibility. Why do so many people hate this law, how does the rest of the world deal with these issues, and how can it be used to take on new challenges like A.I.? Listen to find out. Otherwise Objectionable is executive produced by Bilander Media.

Glad this podcast exists, but needs a more balanced perspective

I appreciate and applaud the effort to address this important topic, but the first episode lacks nuance that I would take with a grain of salt. Some claims-like the idea free speech would be over-felt hyperbolic. While there are some who would want to repeal section 230 entirely, many advocate for modifications rather than outright removal which could have been clarified. The opening story was beautiful, but I don’t quite believe after listening that changes to 230 would lead to a situation where users were prevented from accessing support communities. The link there was not well connected. A more balanced discussion perhaps including from other perspectives could add more depth to conversation.
