Hebrews 2:11-18 - The Book of Hebrews - Christ in the Congregation

Hebrews 2:11-18 - The Book of Hebrews - Christ in the Congregation

Christ as the Son is in the congregation. He is proclaiming the name of God and praising the Father, leading us in worship. All of this is part of the sanctifying process, how we are sanctified through his activity, and we are learning to trust in the Father in new and greater ways because of what Christ is doing within the Church. We are the sons and daughters that God has given him.

Hebrews 2:5-10 - The Book of Hebrews - Christ Made Lower than Angels for Suffering

Hebrews 2:5-10 - The Book of Hebrews - Christ Made Lower than Angels for Suffering

Christ's suffering and death was for us and on our behalf. Here in Hebrews 2:5-10 we find Christ in his humanity for the reason of tasting death for all of us. That we would be saved by him because of his faithful acts is the grace of God.

We thank God that we have an understanding of the Son of God, Jesus.

Hebrews 2:1-4 - The Book of Hebrews - The Holy Spirit's Gifts and Remembering the Word of God

Hebrews 2:1-4 - The Book of Hebrews - The Holy Spirit's Gifts and Remembering the Word of God

We are told, instructed, and warned in Hebrews 2:1-4 that we must give an extra effort to remember what we have heard from the Word of God. We do not want to drift away by being neglectful. Many times we get questions about the gifts of the Spirit and often, the question is expressed this way, "I want to know what my gifts are."

The reality of the gifts of the Spirit in the Scripture often revolves around the activity of God testifying to the Word of God that is being spoken. The gifts of the Spirit are usually evidenced within the context of the spoken Word being proclaimed. Another way we can get down to the subject of the gifts of the Spirit is by asking, "What gifts do you want to distribute according to your will God?"

Even more practically, with respect to the testimony of Scripture that the gifts flow in the context of preaching and speaking the truth of Christ, a great question to ask yourself is, "Who am I discipling?" Are we walking others through the process of becoming a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ? If the answer is yes, then we can confidently anticipate the gifts of the Spirit to be experienced in that relationship and others like it.

Hebrews 1:5-14 - The Book of Hebrews - Christ is Better Than the Angels

Hebrews 1:5-14 - The Book of Hebrews - Christ is Better Than the Angels

Following the opening and introductory comments to the book of Hebrews, the Holy Spirit brings us to an emphatic point, that Christ is greater than the angels. This is the subject from Hebrews 1:4-2:18. The majority of the first two chapters of this letter to Jewish Christians has this divine emphasis. But why?

The book of Hebrews shows us that Christianity is spiritual, it is just a legislative, detached, and mental religion of just knowing the right things, saying the right things, and believing the right things. It is knowing God and His Son through the power of the Holy Spirit where are lives are transformed. The implications of this experience in Christ plays the primary role in how our own sanctification works and also how we understand church unity in our modern Christian setting in the United States.

Hebrews 1:1-2 - The Book of Hebrews - The Primacy of Christ in Hebrews

Hebrews 1:1-2 - The Book of Hebrews - The Primacy of Christ in Hebrews

The apostles told the primitive churches in that first generation of Christians of the importance of holding fast to the gospel. Both Paul and Peter in their farewell address, in their final letters that we have on record, tell the churches to hold fast to the gospel of Christ and commit this message to the churches.

The book of Hebrews details for us the excellency, the far superior excellency of Christ as the Son of God. The Son came with an unparalleled message. The book of Hebrews also tells us that we not only have the range of understanding that looking forward we have hope in Christ, but even looking backwards, we see that even the world was made through him. Through and through, the message of the gospel in either direction points us to Christ and his unique position as the Son of God.

The book of Hebrews is truly a Christ-exalting revelation of Scripture.

Hebrews 1:3-4 - The Book of Hebrews - A Gospel of Hope

Hebrews 1:3-4 - The Book of Hebrews - A Gospel of Hope

The book of Hebrews exalts the person of Jesus and points us to the future right from its opening. We are told in no uncertain terms of the absolute supremacy of Christ and that the coming age is soon to arrive of which Christ as the Son is the heir of all things.

The letter to the Hebrews speaks to us today and brings clarity to the central focus of the gospel, Christ himself.

We must maintain this forward-looking perspective as we set our eyes on Jesus and endure to the end with the faith that we have received in Christ.
