    Supporting Teenage Anxiety

    Supporting Teenage Anxiety

This is a must listen for parents of teens, teens themselves and anyone who experienced anxiety when they were a teenager. I am joined by psychologist Dr Aoife Durcan (@HighlySensitivePsychologist) as she helps me better understand the teenage brain, our window of tolerance, how it might be for a more sensitive child growing into their teenage years, how parents can support their teenager who is struggling with anxiety, how and why anxiety is presenting during the teenage years and how best to approach it. There is a lot to absorb here and it is highly informative as well as relatable and encouraging. I share my own experience of anxiety as a teen which was very challenging, given how little we knew about it then and how much the stigma was still around. Follow Aoife for more and sign up to her teenage anxiety course here.

Is social media fuelling my daily anxiety?

Is social media fuelling my daily anxiety?

Time for another solo episode - don't worry, I haven't given up on guests - and this time I am discussing the very real impact that social media - Instagram in particular - is having on my daily anxiety at the moment. From social comparison to feelings of not doing enough or imposter syndrome, I have come to the conclusion that social media might be the main fuel behind these uncomfortable feelings. I asked my followers if they were feeling similar and among other stats, 55% said they struggle with the social comparison element of social media. This is a short and sweet episode that just might make you think.

Time to talk about therapy again. When anxiety comes after the trauma: Debbie's story

When anxiety comes after the trauma: Debbie's story

Sometimes we go through something that you think would bring a huge amount of anxiety down on top of us, but it doesn't hit us until we're out the other side. That's exactly what happened for Deborah Somorin. Here she shares her story - documented in her new book Believing In Me - about being taken into care at the age of 11, becoming homeless and pregnant and welcoming her baby boy when she was just 14 years of age. Despite the adversity she faced, Debbie went on to achieve incredible things and it wasn't until she was living a 'normal' life that anxiety eventually reared its head, along with imposter syndrome. Hear her compelling story on Owning It and read her book available now. Follow me on @OwningItPodcast for more.

Incredibly Helpful.

I’m so grateful to have discovered this podcast! I just listened to the episode on medications to treat anxiety with Dr. Rosie Plunkett. It was an excellent interview that really lifted my mood. The guest was incredibly informative and reassuring, and I really appreciated the host’s willingness to share her story. It gave me the hope and motivation I needed today to keep persevering through this rough adjustment period (finally trying out an SSRI after trying everything else to manage my anxiety). Thank you. ❤️
