39 episodes

Hi! I'm Linda - An ABC(ish) writer/illustrator currently based in NYC.
PODCAST WHAT:
This podcast is an extension of the Panda Cub Stories webcomic, where I'm documenting my own journey of (re)learning Chinese language and reconnecting with my family's heritage. Here, I'll be musing on what I've learned about Chinese language, culture, folklore, and/or festivals.
PODCAST WHY:
While I LOVE making the webcomics, there's a lot of content I can't fit into those few panels... so I thought I'd relaunch this podcast to share the extra goodies with you!
PODCAST (LANGUAGE) FORMAT:
I'll be switching back and forth from English to Mandarin (with maybe a bit of Sichuanese thrown in). This new podcast format will be more conversational, and less formal, than the previous episodes! But the content will mostly revolve around Chinese language and culture... stuff I find interesting (and that you may find interesting too!).
P.S. I've been told I have a nice soothing voice, so if you you AREN'T interested in Chinese culture but DO have insomnia, maybe this podcast is also for you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

P.P.S. Podcast origins:
Panda Cub Stories started as stories told bilingually in Mandarin Chinese and English. Episodes prior to 2020 are mostly stories adapted from, or inspired by, Chinese myths, legends and folklore!

Welcome to the final part of Pearl – A Chinese Mermaid Story! Last time, Hai brought a soul-blossom seed back from the realm of dreams… a seed that can bring Mei back to life – if only Hai can get it to bloom. Day after day Hai tends to the seedling, to no avail… until he discovers the missing link: the plant requires a blood tithe. As Hai sleeps, the soul blossom grows… Today, in the 12th and final part of Pearl, we find out how our story ends.

We ended last week’s episode with Hai’s dream – or is it a dream? – leading him to a mysterious, gray colored land. And who was the mysterious figure in black? What could this possibly have to do with saving Mei?  We continue our story today, in Part 11 of Pearl – A Chinese Mermaid Story.

We ended our last episode with a bit of a cliffhanger – Mei had taken her seventh sister’s advice and gives Hai her 海之心, her sea-heart. We left our story with Mei’s heart literally in Hai’s hands… and Mei a lifeless figure of stone. Is our tale to end in tragedy? We continue our story today, in Part 10 of Pearl – A Chinese Mermaid Story!

Great for Restless Adults as Well as Kids

I listen to this podcast at night to help me fall asleep, and I mean that in the best way. It's not boring, just engaging and relaxing! It's also interesting to learn about aspects of Chinese culture/language that I'd never been exposed to before. Linda does a great job!
