My Rock Moment: If These Walls Could Rock: The Story of LA's Famed Sunset Marquis Hotel

For more than 60 years, the Sunset Marquis has been far more than just a hotel. Hidden behind its unassuming gates just off the Sunset Strip, it became a sanctuary for some of the biggest names in music—a place where artists could escape the spotlight, create, recover, celebrate, and occasionally indulge in a little rock 'n' roll debauchery. In this episode of My Rock Moment, Amanda sits down with Craig Williams and Tyler Measom, the directors of the new documentary If These Walls Could Rock, opening in theaters and on streaming August 14. Craig's connection to the story began more than a decade ago when he co-authored If These Walls Could Rock with hotel owner Mark Rosenthal. Together with Tyler, he has now brought the extraordinary history of the Sunset Marquis to the screen. Amanda and the directors discuss how a hotel inspired by the Garden of Allah became one of the music industry's best-kept secrets, why generations of artists—from Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, Slash, Dave Grohl, Roger Daltrey, Cyndi Lauper and many more—considered it a home away from home, and why privacy, discretion, and trust became the hotel's greatest currency. They also dive into some of the documentary's most memorable stories, including Bruce Springsteen's chance encounter with Ron Kovic that would ultimately influence Born in the U.S.A., the remarkable father-son story of George and Mark Rosenthal that forms the emotional heart of the film, the challenge of separating rock mythology from reality, and some of the incredible stories that never made the final cut. Shout It Out Loudcast: Album Review Crew Episode "GN'R Lies"

On the 79th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest, Brad Rusthoven from the Slamfest Podcast, review the 1988 album "GN'R Lies" by Guns N' Roses. In the late 1980's Guns N' Roses exploded on the hard rock scene. Their debut album, "Appetite For Destruction" would go on to become the biggest selling debut album of all time. GNR was led by one of a kind lead singer Axl Rose. Guitarists Slash and Izzy Stradlin formed an incredible dual guitar attack. Duff McKagan on bass and Steven Adler were a monster rhythm section. Previous to their debut album the band released a "live" EP called Live Like A Suicide which consisted of four songs, two of which were covers. They decided to add 4 acoustic songs to side two and call the album "GN'R Lies." The album made it to #2 on the US Billboard charts and eventually went 5 times platinum. It was produced by Guns N' Roses and Mike Clink. GN'R Lies continued GNR's unpredictable streak and made the fans clamor for more. Raw "live songs along with amazing and catchy acoustic songs, like "Patience" which went to #4 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The legendary closing track, "One In A Million" is still controversial today! This was the Tom's pick. So find out all about "Nice Boys" and why do good girls like bad boys! Only Three Lads: Top 5 Concept Albums...That Work Outside of the Concept! With Bill Kopp

Are you all sitting comfybold two square on your body? Then I'll begin. We return to the topic of the concept album...with a spin. Some concept albums simply don't work without context. Others function as a cohesive collection of songs, even divorced from a weighty backstory or overarching theme. Those are the records that Brett Vargo discusses with this week's Third Lad, Bill Kopp. You may remember renowned music scribe Bill Kopp from his O3L appearance a few years back discussing his book on classic San Francisco indie label 415 Records, Disturbing The Peace. Now Bill's back, celebrating the release of his latest book, What's The Big Idea - 30 Great Concept Albums, out now on Hozac Books. In What's The Big Idea, Bill explores 30 remarkable concept albums, drawing from new, firsthand interviews with the artists behind their creation, including Pete Townshend, Steve Kilbey, Captain Sensible, Utopia, and William Shatner. While there are some well-known classic concept albums covered such as The Pretty Things' S.F. Sorrow and Jethro Tull's Thick As A Brick, much of the book is dedicated to lesser known gems that dispel the myth that the concept album died in the mid-1970s. Order the book at: https://hozacrecords.com/product/pre-order-whats-the-big-idea-30-great-concept-albums-book-by-bill-kopp/ We also feature music by the great veteran Australian singer-songwriter Greg Williams ('Everyday Is Your Birthday') and Pillars of Creation, a band comprised mostly of early Creation Records musicians - led by Jasmine Minks' Jim Shepherd and featuring members of Primal Scream, The Loft, and June Brides ('Be Careful What You Wish For'). Ugly American Werewolf in London: The Jetsetters - Britt Lightning & Tommy London

There's nothing better than hearing a new song that kicks ass! They don't promote rock n roll like they used to but when we heard Above The Noise from The Jetsetters - Britt Lightning (Vixen, Rock Band Camp) & Tommy London (SiriusXM) - we were immediately hooked. The track is straight ahead rock with sing-a-long choruses but more simply, it's fun. We're psyched to turn folks onto the track and were happy to speak with Britt & Tommy about Above The Noise and their band. Britt has visited us before on First Concert Memories #11 and you may know her from Vixen or leading Rock Band Camp with other legends. Tommy has played in different bands, has released a solo record and is on Ozzy's Boneyard, Hair Nation, Classic Rewind and The Bon Jovi Channel on SiriusXM. Though they've been together for years, chasing each other across the country, they finally got together to record something new and continue to write and record ahead of an eventual album release in 2027. They even made a fun new music video featuring an old-school MTV-style storyline with characters including Tommy as Rex Malone, Britt as Pepper Grinder, and special guests Jesse Hughes and Monty Pittman.  Hear them talk about all the cool events they have coming up, Britt's new gear, Rock Band Camp and of course, more singles, videos and future live dates.
