Parenthood for Sports Therapists - Working from home featuring Sonia Fierro STA Women in Sports Therapy Podcast

    • Careers

Welcome to the ‘Women in Sports Therapy' podcast from the Sports Therapy Association. In this month's episode, Fiona is joined by Osteopath and Sports Therapy practitioner Sonia Fierro. Sonia is a relatively new parent and works on a self-employed basis, mainly online. She has years of experience working in a range of sporting settings, including team GB diving and fencing teams. She has also previously owned a CrossFit Gym and multidisciplinary clinic. She has held a national powerlifting record for deadlift in Italy - a title that has since been surpassed, but she plans to regain as the first woman in her category in Italy to hit a 200kg deadlift.

In this episode Sonia describes her experience of navigating new parenthood whilst juggling her self-employed work commitments. She recalls the challenges she has faced so far with her child care responsibilities and how this led to her shifting focus towards her online practice and educational programmes in order to work from home. Sonia is determined to build a sustainable work-life balance and shares her dreams for her future with her daughter Alia, as well as wisdom for women (and men) in improving gender equity in sports therapy.

Catch you in the next episode!

Fiona :)
